  • Hiding joins/ seams on synlawn turf, and placement options.

I managed to pick up a cheapish 16' x 5' synlawn classic putt.... and am thinking of 3 options

    1) to cut at 8' and then place in a 8' x 10' section in front of my hitting mat

    2) to keep in original size and have a long put area on one side of the 10 x 10 enclosure ( and 6' extra distance)

    3) same as (2), but in the middle and cut out spaces for hitting strips so that I can put over turf on using simulator

Welcome your views on the above options??

Also, if I go for option (1) is it possible to join so that can hardly notice ... both visually and if putting across the seam?

Getting excited as almost there, but don't want to rush a cut of this turf and balls it up....

The turf can be seemed but to make it look good you should have a pro do it. I'm sure your local synlawn location would send a guy out to do it at a decent cost. I had an indoor putting green installed by a pro and there was a seem and they used a special seeming hot iron and tape. Not sure any old carpet installer can seem this stuff and make it look and roll true.

Also, I would go with your option 1) and have turf fill your sim area at 8 x 10 up to your hitting mat. There are ways to build up the area beneath the turf to the level of your hitting mat for flush rolling putts off the mat. For example, foam interlocking tiles placed under the 8 x 10 area. Its only 80 SF so the cost would not be that much. You can also shim the turf a bit to be flush with hitting mat. All depends on how thick your synlawn turf is and how thick your hitting mat is.

      Good luck!

        Thanks Cspin

Yep I currently have the hitting mat built in to a plywood platform and interlocking foam mats in the 8x 10 area so it will be level with the platform.

Unfortunately I don't live in US near a synlawn and had to Fly this roll back home with me so it would just be me doing it .

I think you are probably right on option 1...:. It's just that I would only get circa 8' puts and It sure does look nice rolled out to 18'
