  • Mat you'd find at a non-grass driving range

Hello everyone. If I wanted to buy a mat that is similar to the ones you'd find at a non-grass driving range, what should I look for? So far I have tried a monster tee like mat (very plush, punishing on the elbow) and the Divot Action. I think the DA has a bit too much give... I'm going to try and put some padding underneath it as mentioned in another thread. In the meantime, however, I want to research what more basic options are available. FYI - I don't mind that driving range mats are a little bouncy on fat shots.

    Thank you!

I guess it would depend on which driving range you go to. From my research the most popular seem to be Country Club Elite, Fiberbuilt, and TrueStrike and based on youtube vids those are all at different driving ranges. For your typical flat, hard, muni type driving range mats you can try talking to the managers at driving ranges and asking if they sell used mats. I've picked up a bunch like that, some in pretty good shape. They're ususally willing to sell them for 25 bucks or so. I use those as stance mats and cut out sections for inserts.

Good idea to contact some local places. Thank you for the reply!

All turf mats sells the premium driving range mat that is like the ones your gonna hit off at a range. I have one, it's pretty nice but does wear out so you gotta keep rotating it. Synlawn tee strike could be a nice option also, holds a tee and from what I've been reading it plays well hitting right off it with irons as well and doesn't punish you terribly on fat shots like the squishy Matzilla you have as do I. I'm going with the Tee Strike next week

To anyone that is interested in the Divot Action... I solved the problem I was experiencing (not being able to feel the ground after making contact with the ball) by simply placing a piece of packing material under the DA insert. The flexible hitting surface is much less bendy now and I can feel the ground much better and haven't lost any of the benefits of the Divot Action surface. The material came from a meal service we use (I think it's called Plated). It's kind of like cotton but actually made up of recycled material used to insulate the food ingredients during shipping.
