  • Mat to practice chipping from the rough

I rarely get to play golf outside and do most of my golfing on the sim in the basement . In my past few rounds outside I've found that I'm losing quite a few strokes due to bad chipping from the rough bc I have a hard time judging how much harder I need to hit the ball due to the grass behind the ball.

I've been toying around with the idea of having a movable platform for my GC2 to be able to read the ball both from my current full shot mat and slide to read from another "rough" mat for chipping.

    Synlawn has this:

    Has anyone found anything better?

This works pretty well, but the backing isn’t very thick. Probably not something you’d be taking full shots with deep divots on anyway, but for chipping and pitching, it works pretty decent...

This 3' x 4' multi-surface chipping mat is perfect for indoor or outdoor practice. Made with the best turf- it's lightweight and easy to store, or transport.

That said, it is pricey. Also, if you have an HMT you might experience some mis/no reads on the club head data due to the lower dots being masked at impact by the deeper turf shots.

    I just found this...

Has anyone ever used this mat or something similar? Maybe when in the rough while playing a round, throw this down over the top of your CCE or trustrike? It has a bit thicker backing so should hold together better then pro putt systems mat. I wouldn't want to hit off this mat straight off concrete, but if you have your CCE mat underneath that should provide some cushion. Hopefully the mat wouldn't bounce all over after impact tho....

To get a fairway and deep rough setup, I bought 2 divot-action inserts and built a slide for my GC2 so that I could play from either cut. FYI, I have a Fiberbuilt stance mat to begin with and bought the inserts to fit into my current stance mat.
