Golfbeat I bought the 4' x 14' deluxe package with all the shims, borders, & extras. I think th e 4' wide is worth it, as long as it doesn't break the budget. That extra 12" makes a difference... it gives you more options for making putts without worrying about having a stance off the mat or feeling cramped. Having said that, the 3' would work fine... the 4' is just better. As for length, I would have been fine with 8 or 10'. I really don't use the extra length. I could, but I really don't. most of the putts i find myself practicing are the 6 to 10 footers anyway. I went with the local course stimp speeds of 9 & 10, but would recommend the higher speed one because this mat definitely feels slower than a RL green stimping 9 or 10. What else? oh yeah... the shims... they are kinda useless. They are just pieces of foam in various shapes. The putting is great when the mat is flat, but no matter how I inserted the shims, they gave the mat a very unrealistic "bump" that wasn't good for putting practice at all. Better off using/finding your own objects at home to experiment with if you want curved putts. The black borders for keeping balls on the mat and framing the ends are actually nice to have.

I am going to look into this stuff as a putting surface. seems very similar to the birdie ball material. Looks like I'll be able to put together a 4x12 strip for less than half the birdie ball cost.
