  • Cutting hitting strips from larger CCE mat

Anyone have a highly efficient method for cutting hitting strips from a larger CCE mat?

When I originally built my simulator I purchased a large stance + hitting mat. Subsequently I built up my floor with squares and I left a hole for hitting strips.

For my first strip I cut it using a dewalt circular saw. The blade did not have the easiest time working through the turf + rubber and it was somewhat hard to get a perfect line given the saw had some trouble. (In the end the last 4 inches was about a quarter inch wider)

Secondly, any recommendations on what tool to use to fix that last 4 inches that was a bit off). Trimming that mat is a bitch as it doesn’t seem like a delicate tool will work on that combination of materials.

    thanks

Use a brand new Razor Blade

No chance you can cut CCE strips with razor blade. It’s way to thick. You couldn’t even get through the synthetic turf to the rubber in one pass and then good luck with that industrial grade rubber. Maybe you could if you wanted to spend hours but you’d have to make so many cuts it would look terrible. If you can do this pleases take a video.

Um, yeah you can and quite easily. Turn the mat over and cut from the bottom. Use a level as a straight edge with a new razor blade. It does take a couple passes, but once you have the initial cut it's simple and make sure to use the straight edge until you are done.

Here is a thread i created where i cut the CCE to fit my hitting strip.

So I have been using a combination of various diy mat types and setups and figured I would rebuild a stance platform and hitting area to accommodate all the

Yep I agree with shank12u on the razor blade. I actually cut my two current inserts with a pocket knife. Straight cuts and about 10 minutes. Put some elbow grease into it brotha!

You cut out of CCE too? Placed panels of Fiberbuilt? Any pics?

Cut cce with knife. Definitely not cutting fiberbuilt with a knife though. Is that what you meant? Anyway I’ll see if I can post a pic.

Those are (2) 8" lg strips of cce mat cut into my floor. Upstairs room so wood flooring. I need offset and my son is lefty so that is the reason for 2 strips. I putt from the stance mat material in between the 2 strips. Helps with getting better ha readings. I did briefly have a like size piece of fiberbuilt in the same cut out but 8" lg wasn't enough for steep wedge strikes. Club would stay in the divot too long and catch the front edge of the cutout. So I ditched the fiberbuilt for now.

I cut fiberbuilt with a table saw. Very messy and probably a little dangerous. The fiberbuilt has metal embedded in the thick hard plastic.

Ok, so have no problem using CCE for general ball striking. And deftly made a runway to putt from, from what material? - a more thin like generic mat. So that's pretty cool though the gc2 goes to the same spot every time and you know where to put the ball every time on the strip and you just replace that spot if it wears out easily. You're a mat genius! Lol

Haha, hardly. I've bounced around thru several iterations. You def learn stuff as ya go around here. As far as cce, I've had joint issues as others have. I just like to hit off cce the best. If I don't over do it, I'm able to keep the joint issues to a minimum. My stance mat (the entire floor) is a synlawn type putting material. It's very nice and not very cheap. You have a decent window to hit from on a gc2 and that allows me to hit from one spot and then putt from another. Again, stolen ideas from others. Lol. I'll see if I can post another pic maybe get an idea of the height differences.

I originally had a piec of gel under the hitting area with no cutouts. Seemed like a good idea at first and worked well. But over time that area stretched and I cut that out. That's why you see that rectangular seem. Meh, you live and learn.
