  • Rawhide vs. CCE Mat Comparison: Rawhide wins

This is a follow-up to my post here: https://golfsimulatorforum.com/forum...cce-vs-rawhide

TL;DR - Rawhide's grade A mat is absolutely fantastic. I've been super happy with it over the last 2+ weeks and have returned the CCE to Costco. There are some slight signs of wear as it's a reconditioned mat, but given the overall performance and amazing price ($200 total shipped), I would not hesitate to buy one again and highly recommend it to others.

    Here's a detailed comparison:
Rawhide Grade A (https://rawhidegolfball.com/product/golf-mat/) Country Club Elite (https://www.costco.com/Country-Club-...100034931.html)
Price $200 total (incl. shipping) $449 + tax (Costco)
    Size 5'x5' 5'x5' (4'x5' is $349 + tax)
    Material Polypropylene Nylon
    Pros
    • Doesn't kill your joints - I've had no issues playing 5-6 TGC rounds each week for the last two weeks + practice.
    • Consistent and close to real-life ball flights on my SkyTrak.
    • Feels closer to standing on real grass compared to CCE which is too spongy / squishy in my opinion.
    • Deep turf with sufficiently thick base underneath - can insert a tee anywhere on the mat.
    • Very solid / heavy mat - built to last.
    • Great price and value.

    • Brand new - zero discoloration / signs of wear.
    Cons
    • May see some light wear / discoloration in 1 or 2 of the 4 sides around where the tee-hole is located.
    • Very slight mat residue if hitting from a new area (wipes away easily).
    • While significantly better than my original mat from Thrasher Golf, the CCE did prevent me from playing as much as I would have liked due to pain in my right elbow.
    • The deep / spongy turf definitely grabs your club if you hit it fat. Made me not want to hit down into the ball with irons.
    • Turf is too spongy and doesn't feel like standing on real grass. Made me feel less balanced through the swing.
    • Much more expensive

Sorry that I forgot to take side-by-side photos before I returned the CCE. I've attached some photos of the Rawhide mat - let me know if you have any questions. Highly recommend!

    Cheers.

It's a used mat right? So what mat manufacturer is it?

I wonder if these are the mats that are used at TopGolf facilities?

For anyone wondering about the Rawhide...go to your nearest Top Golf location if you want to try it out. Rawhide is just a few miles from my house so I picked mine up in person. They simply have a deal with Top Golf where they get all of their old, slightly used, and sometimes brand new mats and they resell them. Great owner, great service, great mat for the $.

How tall are those mats? Thickness?
          2 inches?

Hi all. I was using the CCE strip and after a few weeks of using it my right elbow was killing me. I was using it up against a 2” foam board so it was level with my feet. Because of the pain in my elbow I started doing some research and came across Rawhidegolfball. I called them and was surprised when the owner Mark actually answered the phone. Mark was awesome to talk to, telling me his story and about the mats that he sells. I told him my issue and he said he thought the mat he sells could help with the elbow issue. After talking to him for a while I decided to order the Grade A+ mat, which I received at my house 2 days later. The mat looked almost brand new, you could tell it was used a little but it has very little wear. This mat was so nice I actually called Mark back to thank him and tell him how happy I was with this mat. It’s been a while now and I use this every day in my garage with SkyTrak hitting into a net. I’m in the process of building a sim enclosure and want to thank this forum for the many ideas which is helping me get to my finished product. Hopefully by next year I’ll have the impact screen and projector to complete this sim build. If you’re looking for a good mat to hit off, I highly recommend the mat from Rawhidegolfball.com.

I ordered a Rawhide mat last week and finally got a chance to hit on it for the first time this morning. It's a great mat at a great price. I got the "A" condition for $210 (and free shipping) and you can barely even tell that it's been used. I ordered it on Thursday and it arrived on Monday. So the shipping was not only free, but also very fast.

I've cycled through a few different mats trying to find one I like and this one is perfect. I highly recommend these to anyone who is looking for a high quality mat but not looking to drop several hundred bucks in the process.
