  • Protee sub floor

Has anyone tried using coolroom sandwich panel as a sub floor? (Foam sandwiched between two thin sheets of aluminum)
My floor has to be portable as the space doubles as garage, I've just purchased some 1/2" ply sheet approx 4x8' to build my floor, by the time I built it up and cover it, it's gonna weigh a ton. At least I will get to golf and workout at the same time...

When I started deciding on what to build for a floor that was one option I was going to use also. As my plans came together I was fortunate enough to find a space I could build something more permanent. I am sure that idea will work for you. One draw back with aluminum cover is denting on the practice swings. I would use Styrofoam and cover it with 1/2 plywood. One drawback with a lite sub floor is it will move easily. So you will have to figure out how to make it stay in place. The lights have to be really close to the same spot every time you set up or results will vary.

    Good luck

Flooring options... I don't want to build my mat but would be happy to cut to insert as neede. What are my options? I've seen Cory's $1400, and don't want to spend that much, but would like left and right hand swing with a putting path to the screen are - Any ideas that people are happy with?

As a follow up... is an optishot mat okay to use? Are the sensor pad the same size?

$1400? How about less than $200?

See my post on my cheap build. 2 $60 stance mats and some MDF boards.

The Protee sensor mat is much bigger than the Optishot.

I have my portable set up in the garage. Platform is divided into 3 sections made of 1/2 ply and 2" X 3"'s. Two sections are 3 foot wide and one 2 foot wide section in the center with putting sensor. I have these hinged to the floor and just fold them up out of the way when not in use. Also have a 4X5 stance mat that I set down and hold into place with clasp hooks. With this set up you do not have to worry about alignment each time as you would with movable sections. By breaking it up into 3 sections it is light enough for one person to lift and store. Takes me 5 minutes set up time from start to fist swing.

WOW, great setup Craig! Would you mind sharing a little more about your simulator? What kind of projector and screen are you using? Also, love the computer cart and monitor….can you share a little about that as well?

Really excellent use of garage space.

Thanks John. The Screen is the HD impact screen from Cory at par2pro. I have had it a year and has held up great (over 10,000 shots and counting I would guess). The great thing about it is its washable. I use real balls and no matter how much you keep your balls clean you will get marks on the screen. Just pop it in the washer with a cup of oxy clean and its like new. (do not use detergent). I picked up my Optima 720p projector off of craigslist for 200 bucks. It works great. The cart was more than the projector , kinda steep but it is nice and sturdy. You can get a crappy one for about 70 bucks but they were all too wide for my needs. I picked this cart up up off of Amazon for $230 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BGHSGC/ref=oh_details_o09_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1.

Thanks Tom and Craig for the feedback,
I agree with the thought that the light weight panels might slip on the floor, although I could probable use a anti slip base or stoppers to keep it in place. Just keeping it simple is my challenge, I have an uncanny knack of over complicating everything I do.

Crags pics were great, thanks. 5 mins to set up and go is great. I persevered with using the Protee screen, at nearly 14' wide, keeping everything portable/foldable has been a real challenge.

ID:	53299 I used 2" DOW high load 60PSI insulation panels $28 US each available at Whitecap for a 2' x 8' section. I fastened them to the sub floor with L brackets and topped with ECORE speed and agility indoor turf panels - $50 per 2' x 4' panel. These tiles provide a more natural underfoot feel compared to carpet on top of plywood. Had a little shifting problem so I got some pallet anti slip sheets for between layers. For a righty only set up you should be able to come in @ under $500 for your subfloor. It takes me about 30 minutes for set up or break down for a 10' x 10' simulator pad
Floor indoor soccer, field hockey or lacrosse fields in a breeze with our interlocking Turf Tiles. Providing a shock absorbent, spike resistant floor, these tiles can be removed and stored easily.

What did you use for the black trim on your platform? What did you use for the curtains? Looks very nice.

                            Thanks Mthunt.!

We have the BKT&G Winter Shoot-Out going on now. -You or any online sim player can qualify for the tournament online. But, you'll need to show up for the finals on the Sunday before the Super Bowl to win the prize money. We're located in Landisville, PA - about 2 hours due east of New York City. Mthunt, judging by the standings on the tour leader board you'd easily qualify. Most of our contestants so far have had a few beers in them while they're playing so the scores haven't been that great. Keep me in mind for your team for this year's Ryder Cup. I'm finally rediscovering my old swing after putting the clubs away for a few years and my 36 handicap is bound to come in handy.
