I want to create a level putting green which doubles up as a stance mat, and insert a hitting strip into it. If the hitting strip is say 50mm thick; and the putting green is 15mm thick, I’ll need to build up the putting green sub-floor by say 35mm (1 3/8”) (so I can drop the hitting strip into the sub-floor and have the hitting strip and putting green level).
I want to avoid using ply/OSB with rubber/foam on top, so was wondering if I can get away with a thick (35mm) rubber/foam sub-floor. Will it be too squishy?
This company cuts different grades of foam to size, and looks like a good option if it will work .... ?

1) Do you think it will be too squishy?
2) Which grade / type would work?
3) Any other bright ideas to build up 35mm of sub-floor for around £17/sqm (~ $2/sq foot)?
