  • Sand under hitting mat?

I have a quality hitting mat, the same mat they use at the club for their covered practice area. It sits on concrete in my garage. I've noticed more aches and pains than I experience when just heading to the driving range, one golf nut said to try building a frame and filling it with sand, pack it down, and place the mat on top. I see here that a product called Dricore has been used more frequently for extra padding. Any suggestions?

A lot of mats that are used at driving ranges seem ok until you find yourself hitting tons of balls every day at home. If you search for "Country Club Elite" mats, those are high quality but many people on this forum end up switching to something more forgiving like a Fiberbuilt or Truestrike. If your mat is similar to a CCE, adding cushioning below it isn't going to do much. The fibers are too long and dense to really benefit from it. The biggest issue with CCE is that the fibers grab the club, so the impact is more of a grabbing than anything else. If your mat has shorter fibers, I would for the thread on here called "DIY Truestrike." You can buy a square of gel that you can put under the mat to help. You may have to use some foam exercise tiles or something similar to raise up the rest of the mat.
