  • Simulator flooring ideas and suggestions.....

Hello guys, I got on the forum after starting my build, so I am kind back peddling to get it right. I am at the point where I need to figure out the flooring, and I could use some advice. Setup is Skytrak, 12x9x10 enclosure. I intend on using Fiberbuilt grass strips for the striking surface, and want to cover the rest of the area with putting green. The putting green I have decided on is from Turf Direct, its their Nylon 36 w/ 5mm padding. My question is, what are you guys doing for a subfloor? Ive seen everything from, directly to concrete, to exercise mats, to wood subfloors. I am open to building any of them, I just dont know which is the right way to go. I was actualy thinking about using 4x8 2" thick sheets of PolyISO from hope depot as well. Building a wood subfloor would be cool too, just not sure the exact reason for it other than having full depth putting holes. I appreciate the advice.

I used 1" 2x2 Dri-core panels and put TFD Putting elite on top of it, which I would assume is about the same pile height as the Nylon 36. It matches up almost perfectly in height with the Fiberbuilt strip, once you take the metal brackets off. It works great for me.

Sorry for the mess on the pics, was working on moving my projector and prepping for my Uneekor this week and havent cleaned up yet.

Thanks a lot. By Dri-Core panels, you mean those interlocking basement subfloor panels? OSB on top and plastic on bottom? Did you put any padding underneath?

Yes, and no. Dri-core interlockijg panels directly on the poured floor of my garage, as you can see in the pics I added.

How do you like the TFD putting elite? How is it for putting, any idea on stimp speed? Would you recommend?

Yes, I see. Do you think you would have benefited from putting padding under the Elite putting surface? Does it also hold up well as a stance pad?

I don't think so. The turf itself feels reasonably well padded, sometimes I'll go out and hit shots in my socks and it's plenty comfortable doing it . Plus, if there was more padding it would slow down the putting even further and it's already rather slow. Definitely slower than the greens at my local country club, although not so much that I feel like it's distracting. So far so good as a stance pad. Admittedly I had a bad bout of tennis elbow soon after installing so I've probably only gotten a good 2 months of practice on it. So far I'm quite happy with it and would recommend it. It's very stable despite not being secured to the dri-core.

I like it, but recreating country club green conditions wasn't my primary goal. It's certainly on the slow side, I can't say that I'm great with giving out stimp grades on feel, but maybe an 8 or 9? As I think I said before, if you want something faster you'll probably need something firmer which will sacrifice comfort as a stance mat.
