  • Ideas for building out a 3 x 5 mat w/ a Fiberbuilt strip

I have no issues with my 3x5, but one of my friends is a rather big dude with a wider stance. Consequently he feels a little restricted using his driver with only 3 feet of width. He makes it work, but basically can't use the same hitting area for all his clubs (driver needs to be pushed forward, and if he left it there for irons his front foot would be off the edge of the mat).

I'm looking to rectify this, and always wanted to try a fiberbuilt strip anyway. But I'm not looking to drop bank just for this chump haha. I'm basically thinking of ordering the 3 panel fiberbuilt strip, and turning my existing mat sideways. That'd give 5 feet of width, but some open space to fill between the stance mat and hitting area (image below).

Any bright ideas how to fill the dead space so it doesn't look stupid, and maybe attach both the mats together so they don't move independently?

You could try buying a sheet of plywood, cutting it to your dimensions fastening everything to it and then building up the dead spaces with foam tiles and laying an outdoor carpet over top to give it that grass look.

Maybe put a 1X1 boarder around the outside like a small sandbox, and then fasten the wood to the floor, this will prevent any shifting if the mats

Thanks for the input. I wouldn't want to build it up any higher, but did consider some type of border. There's some rubber things you can buy to hold it in place (for ranges/etc) but I was surprised by how pricey they were.

Main concern with the dead space is the seams making it look like junk!

If you can keep it all one piece it will be much easier to have it secure and not shift while swinging
