5-6 inch wide x 18 inch hitting strip

You guys think 5-6 inches is wide enough? Building my floor for my simulator and wanting to do 5-6 inches wide by 15-18 inches long. Using a Skytrak.

Sure, why not? Just needs to make sure the Skytrak is aligned properly

Definitely not wide enough unless you hit blades, have a perfect swing, and never ever miss.

Personally I would go with 12 inch increments then you could install different hitting turfs if ever needed. 12 wide x 24 long would be a good place to start.
