Thanks for all the great ideas on this site! I'm designing a sim room with 9' ceilings. I can swing driver from the bare concrete floor, but it's somewhat close. I want a minimum thickness flooring solution that is both wall to wall and forgiving on the joints. Here is my plan, as of now...let me know what you think and what I can improve.
1. Buy wall to wall carpet from turffactorydirect (like this https://turffactorydirect.com/produc...two-tone-putt/) or possibly home depot or synlawn. The TFD option is 7/16".
2. Build DIY Divot action insert made from Lexan (or i could potentially go the DIY Truestike option.)
3. Buy 3/4 rubber floor tiles for under the turf that would go on the floor beneath the turf (with a cutout for the DIY Divot action).
Questions
1. Total height with the carpet will be just under 3/4 + 7/8 = 1 3/16" total. I'm guessing this is my minimum thickness possible (while still being joint friendly)? Am I thinking right here...or is there a better way? I've read that a 3/4" divot action is kinda the minimum I should go.
2. My initial thought was to just run the wall to wall turf right over the DIY divot action insert. However, I'm guessing that this one spot will wear out eventually. Is the best option to just run it wall to wall...and eventually (when it wears out) just cut out that one section over the DIY insert and glue a section of replacement turf right on the insert? Or should I start off with a cut out right from the get-go?
3. how do people install the wall to wall turf over the rubber tiles? Is it best to glue it down? Carpet tape? Just lay it on top and it will stay with its own weight? (does it bunch up or wrinkle if you don't attach it in some way)?
Thanks and hit em straight!
