  • Hitting strip recommendations indoor sky trak

Hi I’m new to this and getting a skytrak.

what do you recommend as the actual mat part for my club to hit off ? CCE? Please provide links to any recommendations

    thanks

You can search this channel for many discussion on CCE and why there are other better options. The CCE is a joint killer. Unless you have arms of steel or pick the ball very cleanly it is going to end up injuring you. What most people land on is Fiberbuilt. Long lasting and feels like heaven on your joints. Look into either a Fiberbuilt studio mat or get the individual Fiberbuilt strips (individual 12" x 12" pieces fit together for whatever length you want -- typically 2 to 4 feet).

I have never had fibrebuilt leave a mark on my club. For me I will take protection over injury to not getting perfect fat shot full penalty any day. Have a look at the discussion on injury and how long it takes to recover. I can tell when I hit fat on my mat and if I need feedback or something to work on, then I just put a little bit of string behind my ball amd work on not hitting the string. Also, there are other options if you don’t want fibrebuilt.

For what it’s worth I strongly disagree that a fat shot comes off clean on a FB. If anything compared to a standard mat or the diy gel (truestrike) mat I had ... the shot result is more punishing than a standar mat. Because you can actually hit down on the mat. On a standard mat the club bounces up and you still get a good shot result. But with the FB you don’t have the punishment on your body. I really think the FB is going to make me a better ball striker and encourage ball first.

I've got a CCE type 4x5 mat. It is absolutely killing me. As a righty, my right shoulder joint hurts like a b!tch.
I've been reading these threads and have decided to buy Quattro/PurchaseGreen-Premium mat. (both same product).
Getting shipping quote for the PurchaseGreen model as it is currently $100 retail cheaper.

The problem with CCE is not cushion, it is the fibers grabbing the club and causing rapid deceleration. That is why joint pain occurs.

Couldn’t agree more. Having had surgery on both elbows I’m big believer in protect your elbows at all costs. I tried CCE and after 6 months I developed a new soreness. I made move to FB and soreness went away. Think the CCE is a solid stance mat which could incorporate as an insert a FB strip or perhaps a DA.

I’ve had two different colored Fiberbuilt panels and neither of them left marks on the club. Also fat shots don’t come out clean for me, reduced ball speed and spin every time

Fat shots definitely are penalized...its your body that gets away injury free. By one issue I have with the FB is putting.

I'd recommend searching the forum for fiberbuilt vs truestrike.

I haven't hit any of them but went with Truestrike based on body forgiveness (vs CCE) and more trueness (vs FB). Again, no experience, just going off of comments on here. I've only heard good things about divot action but based on my readings here Truestrike had more recommendations.

After reading through a lot of the posts on here I decided to build my own mat on the cheap with a DIY divot action insert. After 6 months of use I am very happy with the result.

i used a full 1/2” sheet of plywood that I cut a slot out of for the hitting strip. I covered it with those 2’x2’ foam squares that snap together like a puzzle piece. I then wrapped that with the cheap indoor/outdoor grass like rug from Lowe’s and stapled it on the bottom.

for the divot action, I bought some lexan, foam strips, contact cement, and some small strips of wood. I first tried the cheap indoor out door rug but that wore down pretty easily after 2-3 weeks of practice. I then picked up a scrap piece of turf from stdepot.com and that has held up extremely well. No signs of wear at all after 6 months of regular use.
