  • Down tension on impact screen

For those who have not built enclosures, what ideas have you come up with to pull your screen down. I have many wrinkles and folds in my screen and need some tensions in the downwards direction.

I have tried using regular screws to screw down tarp clips into my putting green but the screws come loose. Has anyone tried these?

or any other options? Its driving me nuts

So what worked for me was having the screen be just short enough to not reach the ground. It is secured on the top and sides by tarp clips and ball bungees but hangs free at the bottom. The bottom of the screen is maybe 2 inches above the floor.

I have a sleeve sewn in the bottom of the screen. I took a garden hose and filled it up with sand, sealed off the ends and inserted it into the sleeve (got that idea from this forum). The sand adds weight to the bottom and pulls the screen down.

The result is a nice smooth screen created by the downward tension from the weight at the bottom. Plus, the bounce back is minimal because even with the weight at the bottom, there's still some "give" when a ball hits the screen.

I tried a million different things before arriving at this. I found that fastening the screen at the bottom just created way too much bounce back. So using weight to pull it down instead of a fastener was the solution.

Thats a great idea . I have a sleeve in the Netting behind the screen. Maybe I will try the hose + sand trick. (what did you seal the ends off with?). I just have to figure out way to attach the screen to the netting so that it pulls down.

I wonder if there is an alternative to a hose (something bigger) that I could fit more sand in and give more weight.

I just taped the ends shut. Nothing fancy, but you can't see the hose anyway since it's hidden inside the sleeve.

I could definitely fit something bigger in mine as the sleeve is much wider than the hose. If you got a fireman's hose that would probably work really well as it's so much bigger than a garden hose.

You could also make your own sleeve in the screen. Just fold up the bottom to the backside of the screen and secure it with heavy duty glue or find someone who can sew it (unless you know how to sew lol).
