  • Divot Action with Fiberbuilt question

If I go with a Fiberbuilt center hitting mat, can you replace the FB hitting strip with a divot action strip? The FB is very expensive, and it would be nice to at least keep it as a stance mat if I wanted to change to the divot action hitting strip.

It depends on the size and thickness of the FB mat and the hitting strip.

I have the single sided FB set up/rubber tray (studio mat, I think?), and rotate a DivAction strip into it. Takes either one or two stacked 1/4” plywood strips underneath it—depending on if it’s the fairway insert or the two rough combo insert—to make it level with the stance mat. Works great.

The other thing to remember: the DivAction is only 24” long, so you’ll need fillers to make it the same length as the FB strip you’re taking out. He sells those too, and you can actually designate the size. I think I made mine 16” and 8”...so the DivAction is biased slightly forward of middle. (BTW, the slot is not quite 48” inside dimension, actually slightly smaller) My space is pretty small and needs a pretty specific mat placement.

Thank you for the response. Do you have any pics of your setup?

Hi Adrenaline - i dont have the fibre built mat but i have inserted a Divot Action into my tee turf mat. This will give you a rough idea on what the divot acton looks inserted (hopefully)

One pic shows the 3 pieces (strike section and two fillers) of the fairway DivAction out of the tray laying next to a strip of Wittek Quattro I cut. (that I don’t care for, despite the glowing reviews here)

Other pic shows the two-depth rough insert in place along with the same fillers.

In order of preference/use, I’d say:

        1) FB

1a) DivAction (I really really like pitching and chipping work with the two-depth rough strip)

        3) Quattro (wouldn’t buy again)

Very nice setup. So with your rough section in place, is the front part the Fiberbuilt piece that you hit off of simulating the fairway then? So a fairway option and 2 different rough options in place all at once, or is the front piece just filler? I think that would be exactly what I would be interested in. The next question would be can the EYE XO read all of those different positions. thanks

The fillers are just fillers, I never hit off of them, only off of the 24 inches of actual Divot Action section. There is no give/action to the fillers. When the FB strip is in place, it takes up the entire length...just like that Quattro does...so no fillers needed. The pictures may be confusing, but the one showing the rough, is like you’re at address. Whereas the one of the Quattro is from behind/down the target line. Either way, the adjacent turf is the stance mat.

I never hit off of the stance mat (its unforgiving and defeats the purpose of the various strips) regardless of which strip is in place at any given time. BUT, I do use it for putting. I’m able to do this because the QED detection zone is about 18” square, so I set it up so 4-5 inches of the zone falls on the stance mat, and that’s where I putt

It is my understanding that the EYE XO zone isn’t quite that large, but I don’t know that from experience
      Working...
