  • Higher up the face on fibrebuilt mat

So, I have a little hitting area in the garage, and have a range mat, and also a fibrebuilt mat insert (managed to grab from a range), anyway .. what I have noticed is that, hitting from the fibrebuilt mat, I get less distance, and after foot spraying the face, my strike location is above centre, however, when I hit off the tighter range mat, the strike location is lower, below centre and therefore, tend to get more distance

For people who have a fibrebuilt, is this typical (due to the ball sitting up a little more), or would this be anything to do with my swing?

It is pretty tough to assess from a distance but on the surface it sounds like you are a bit steep and are bouncing the club off the firmer surface and digging into the FB matt. How do your results compare to your on-course fairway shots? Your swing is your swing (unless you are planning on changing it) - the strength or major benefit of the FB matt (especially if you are steep) is that it does not tend to contribute to elbow or wrist injury you sometimes see with other mats and a steeper swing.

For me, I see very similar results off my FB mat as I do on course - YMMV.

You read my mind. I had this issue at Club Champion on their fiberbuilt and now at home in my sim. I take serious divots (Beaver pelts) on the course usually and producing spin is not an issue. Occasional fat shot but nothing like I've been seeing on my FB mat. I just set up my sim and I'm consistently high on the face. Could be ball sitting up higher combined with the ease at which the club cuts down and through the bristles. My Eye XO club replays show the ball almost sliding up to the top of the face. The results are far from what I get on course normally because of the face location of strikes. When I hit the ball square the distances are what I would expect. I'm trying to adjust my swing and see if I can possibly make some corrections. I'm also considering buying this turf and making my own hitting strip which I read somewhere Trackman and others use for professional installs as their hitting turf https://synthetic-turf.com/products/.../eztee-hybrid/

Thanks for the info here, it does sometimes feel like I am digging into the FB, but I tend to be a picker from the grass/matt, and hardly any divot, unless I am swinging differently on matt compared to FB ... it also feels like I might not be getting the compression on the FB, as the ball is "pushing" into the mat
