  • Where do you hit from - center or offset?

My turf is down and my screen and enclosure will be here within a week or two (which is 8'X10.5' from Carl's). I'm trying to decide if I embed my stance/hitting matt or just overlay on top the turf (but need to fix sliding issues). I also need to mount my projector on the ceiling. However, I'm not sure if I should be hitting to the middle of the screen or offset. I'm right handed and will probably only have right-handed golfers over, and I see many set ups with golfers standing in the middle but hit offset toward the right of the screen. Perhaps this helps with rotating the screen later after wear since hitting in the center will have less options for rotating. Space isn't an issue for my stance as I have enough room to swing from the left, center, or right. Just want to get sound advice before I mount the projector above and if I decide to embed the stance/hitting matt. So, should I hit from the center or stand in the center and hit toward the right side of the screen?

If you have room I would recommend hitting with everything aimed down the middle. I would only recommend to offset something if you have clearance issues with something..

I will be hitting offset because of the space I have to work with. If I had the room, I would do centered every time. Even if you only have a few folks over, it's nice to have the hitting strip lined up with the projector to the center of the screen. Just my 2¢ Canadian

Both... I normally hit offset, but in the summer months when I have the ability to move my other car out of the garage, and I have a bunch of people over, I will hit centered.

If you have the space to hit into the center, hit into the center. It will make mounting a projector less complicated because you can mount it right over the ball in the center and it will be out of the way for both righties and lefties. If you hit offset then you have to be careful about where you position the projector so that it's not in the way of your backswing or follow through. Those who hit offset (like me) really only do so because our room is not wide enough to hit from center.

I have space limitations so I stand in the middle of the hitting matt and my shots hit the screen right of center. When I'm hitting a driver, I move it even more to the right so I don't hit the left upright on the enclosure. Depending on which Sim you're using you can make some adjustments. I use Skytrak and it lets you slide the Target Line back and forth to match your stance. I have an E6 demo course and it does not support an offset view (as far as i can tell) so whe you hit the ball from an offset position, it is displayed coming out of the center of the screen. It can be a little annoying, but it works.

My planned setup will only have 13' width, so I will probably have to offset it. I'm right-handed and I know that Skytrak can let you slide the Target Line. SkyTrack also remembers which golfers are right or left-handed and will adjust the ball laser accordingly assuming you reverse the position of the unit. But I have a question about the combination. Will Skytrak also remember to slide the Target Line in the other direction for a left-handed golfer? What about other simulators/software?

My screen is only 10’ wide, my mat is centered. I’m right handed so contact is much right of center. I use FSX and TGC. Both can be configured for this. I’m making best of situation and rotating screen to spread out the wear area, which I couldn’t do of it was dead center.

Offset, but only because of space limitations.

I hit everywhere across the mat that I have room for. My mat is 5x5 so I also rotate it once in awhile. Skytrak allows me to adjust the centreline accordingly.

I doubt will ever wear my mat out based on this strategy.

Wedges middle, long irons middle right and woods/driver right on the right edge.
