  • Sim Room Wall Panels

I’m looking wall panels for a garage sim room setup and I cannot source anything from any shops I have been into. I want something close to the attached Trackman sim if possible. Anyone got any ideas?

    Irishgolfer62 - this is the route I went https://akathletics.com/collections/gym-wall-padding.

Not cheap but gave me the padding and look I wanted. They come with Velcro strips so when you put them on the wall, they are stuck there. I have removed them when making mods to the sim room and they pull the paint right off the wall so make sure where you want them.

I agree these panels look very nice and clean. You can also make these panels on your own but not sure how much that would cost and also consumes time. Something to consider is these panels use a vinyl wrap, and if they reflect visible light or IR, it could cause issues with some of the floor camera based launch monitors.

I made my own panels - I do NOT suggest you try it. Takes a LOT of time and not sure I saved very much on cost. There are several forum users who have used Vant panels with decent success.

I’m sorry your experience was so poor with the DIY option. I didn’t make panels for a simulator but did make them for another place in my home and it was very easy, fast and much cheaper than Vant panels. Did the equivalent of the two simulator side walls in a couple hours for $120 (January lumber prices for OSB). The Beau clips were the most expensive part

Stetson can you provide some details on how you made the panels? Panel size, foam, fabric covering, etc? If you want the panels to also absorb sound, is it better to screw the panels directly to the wall rather than using clips to hang them or do you think it wouldn't matter that much?

It was just a lot of work! But, I did both side walls and the ceiling - several custom pieces (a few of which were 3-dimensional cuts). I used french cleats instead of the Beau clips, which was a large cost factor too. Vant panels are certainly not cheap - not sure if my set-up was cheaper or more expensive overall - not sure I want to find out either way! LOL

COGolf… if sound is the top priority than you wouldn’t want to screw them directly or use Beau Clips. You would want to get hangers designers to decouple the wall from its covering (drywall, panel, etc). You could also look into Green Glue as a way to help with the sound.

For what I did it was OSB, foam, batting and fabric for the panels. Below is a great guide on how to make them. The sound dampening aspect will be tricky but installation methods will likely exceed materials chosen in this system. You could try OSB and Green Glue sandwhich but it’ll be heavy

Transform a plain wall into a custom accent piece by adding upholstered wall panels.
