Is a forgiving insert really necessary or will dead air under a thick foam golf mat suffice? I'm thinking of cutting out the hitting space right out of the concrete floor and just laying the mat over that. Any thoughts how this is different than a Holy Grail style insert, besides being permanent? I could always cut the space to fit the Holy Grail but is it worth trying without first?
