  • Fiberbuilt Combo Mat Portability

I'm looking at something like this: https://fiberbuiltgolf.com/collectio...39403487199314

It would be in a garage and I'd have to flip it up / down to park a car. Would this system be portable enough to do that and stay together, or would I have to mount it on some sort of plywood surface? Any experience with moving something like this around would be appreciated. Thanks.

First off - these are excellent mats and I couldn't recommend them highly enough - we have the 10x12 grass series and absolutely love the thing. But "portability" is not an adjective I would use for it. First off the mat sits on a rubber base - this base is quite thick and sturdy. It locks together but would likely pull apart (they are 2x2 foot sections) if you were to move it around a lot. Your idea of a plywood base might work but the thing assembled has got to weigh several hundred pounds. It is delivered on pallets by a forklift off the back of a transport truck just to manage your expectations. That said, if you were able to rig up some sort of wheels or rollers under the platform that might work - but if you need to lift this for your solution, this may not be the best solution. Perhaps just the stance mat + some roll-up grass might work better in your application.

All said though, if you can figure out a way to just leave it is place - these are awesome mats. Hope that helps.

Hah jasonreg - thanks for the clear pic of how these Fiberbuilts are delivered:

Great details - thank you. My screen will be 10x14ish, so I think rigging up something on plywood that can be raised with a pulley (now the engineer in me is going), will be able to pivot the floor down and protect the screen when not in use.

BTW - out of curiosity I emailed FB for the weights of the mat. I was a few pounds under my estimate! (the 32 pieces are the individual rubber base tiles, the roll obviously is the grass). Will have to be one heck of a pulley! Hope that helps.

Fiberbuilt Grass Series 10x12 CH and Player Preferred Series 10x12 CH weighs:
      TRUCK SHIPMENT
      SKID 52 X 52 X 26 32 PCS 465lbs
      ROLL 96 X 12 X 12 1 PCS 60lbs

Hah - reminds me of how I felt when I went to the carpet store to pickup my putting turf. I ordered 10'x16' so it would fit in my van fine. I did not think about how I was going to get it out of the van and into my shed and rolled out. When I arrived to pick it up, the salesman told me, here it is, it's light, just a shade under 200lbs! Then he proceeded to load it with a forklift into my van.

I had to hire someone to come out and get it out of the van, into the shed and unrolled. 200lbs is just a shy bit too much for me to handle by myself, or ask my kids to help with!

Yeah, when I got the email, I had flashbacks of schlepping the tiles and mat into our basement .......

Yikes - glad I asked...that is much heavier than I was thinking it would be.
