  • Cut hitting strip from a golf mat?

Good afternoon all, I had a question in regards to a hitting strip. I am going to start building my own mat with a hitting strip since I’m a lefty who owns a SkyTrak and plays with a bunch of righties. Currently I own a SwingTurf mat that I enjoy quite a bit. My question is: when it comes to the hitting strip is it possible to just cut the strips from my SwingTurf mat? I wasn’t sure if it would make it fray or mess it up. I don’t want to start chopping away as I could sell this mat if I wanted to, but would be great to keep it and have multiple pieces.

if you have done this: did you use anything special to cut it with?

also, anyone that has built there own mat feel free to share any tips you may have to make life easier.

I made 4 hitting strips out of 1 SwingTurf mat. Just use a straight edge and a utility knife and cut from the back side. Don't cut the "grass" fibers - you will just pull the foam piece away and the grass fibers will separate.
