  • Sourcing small remnants of turf?

New guy here. But have lurked for a little while. Lot of good info and happy to finally join.

I'm in the process of putting together a divot action type hitting strip. Have all the components sourced, with the exception of the turf. Sure, there are little tee strips you can buy from Amazon. But the quality is questionable. So I'm wondering where people who've done similar projects have got their turf.

There are some places that will offer samples, but those are just a little too small (12" x 12"). I'd be looking for a scrap/remnant in the 1'x2' or 1'x4' range. Ideally some type of professional grade putting turf.

I've called around locally without much luck. Have sent some inquiries online with maybe one or two good leads. Thoughts?

If you happen to have any Synlawn dealers nearby, I’ve heard that they often have remnants for sale cheaply. If not, you could probably order a 1’x12’ strip of whatever turf you are looking at (or whatever the width of the roll is) as you will need to replace it every so often due to wear.

Good info. Looks like there's one in my area. Also noticed that Lowes sells it (12' roll in 1' increments). Kind of odd because when I searched Lowes website earlier in the week for artificial turf, the Synlawn stuff didn't come up.

I've got a couple samples coming, but would still like to get a larger strip like you describe for replacement (when needed). I did talk with a guy at the local Southwest Greens. He said they should have scraps and remnants available after they get set up in their new office warehouse.

I'd never looked much into turf before. Just been kind of crazy how few places sell small or off-cuts. And of those that do, the pricing many give is kind of laughable. Guess I just have to be a little more patient in tracking down a strip for a reasonable cost.
