Mat over existing carpet

I am planning to build indoor simulator in my living room with carpet on it. Can I just lay over with putting mat without placing anything underneath it? Just check if anyone here doing the samething.

Sounds like it would work... I would consider using the 1/2" gym mats first, then the putting turf, so you have more cushion. Here's where you can find those 1/2" mats: https://tinyurl.com/foam-mat-underturf
