  • Building A Hitting Surface With The Fiberbuilt Strip?

    Hey guys,
fist time poster here building my first simulator and I wanted to ask for advice concerning the hitting mat since I‘m very overwhelmed and lost.

I just bought a Net Return pro package and while I‘m very pleased with the net I‘m I‘m not the biggest fan of the Pro Turf since it‘s hard on my joints and I feel like the grass texture is very rough. Currently I hit off of two 4x1‘ strips of the quattro mat (one to stand on and one to hit off) which is fine but I for me it‘s quite tedious to adjust the distance of the standing mat according to the club you‘re using and I start to develop quite a bit of elbow pain. With injury prevention being my top priority I decided I want a Fiberbuilt mat.

There are so many great Turf-Setups of the Forum but I live in Germany so unfortunately a lot of the options you guys post are not available. Furthermore since it‘s my first built I have little to no experience when it come to building a hitting surface.

With costs in mind I thought of buying 5x8’ of 1,6“ EVA Tiles (ca. 100€) in which I would like to make a cutout for a 4x1‘ Fiberbuilt hitting strip (300€) and top the surrounding EVA Tiles with a green carpet.

Is that a solution you can recommend? I‘m having a hard time to find posts on how people built a solution with the FB Strips. I hit off wood flooring and I read that the FB Strips have metal on the base - do I need some kind of buffer material underneath the FB Strip? I have read one post on this forum where somebody is not happy at all with a FB Deck on EVA Tiles.

The other option would be to buy the FB Grass Series Traditional 4x5‘ hitting mat but it‘s substantially more expensive (800-900€). Furthermore I would have to move this mat 1‘ everything I use it due to limited space and the placement of the hitting strip far outside.

I want to avoid spending 450€ on a DIY solution I‘m not happy with - on the other hand I‘d like to keep costs down where it‘s rational. Would you advice against a DIY solution and simply buy a complete FB-System?

    Many thanks in advance

I’m not sure what the best solution is for you, but I wanted to chime in as one of the people that doesn’t have an elaborate turf setup. I have the fiberbuilt flight deck (the oval shaped one) recessed into foam tiles and it works great. I think I only paid $50 for the flight deck. I stand on a cheap driving range mat that is also recessed into foam tiles. I think the equivalent fiberbuilt setup is $900+.

TheRealLinzer - sorry for finding your post so late...

I can tell you that I used a full 10'x16' Grass-Tex Club Champion piece of turf, this one:
This putting green golf turf from GrassTex is a high performance turf ideal for golf applications. Club Champion can be installed outdoors or for indoor putting greens.

But I know that probably doesn't help you, unless you can somehow get that ordered in Europe? Also, since you're mentioning 450 Euros being the top of your budget, this piece is likely going to cost you much more than that. Also, I don't know the full size of what you're trying to cover, but if you're going to do any putting on it, you want a single piece, and not trying to piece things together. That fact alone is making a great case that you should just buy the full Fiberbuilt mat, for the size you're covering - and it's going to probably be twice as expensive to cover it.

You can see how mine looks on my Sim Shed post here:
Hi Everyone, I'm starting this post as a way to keep myself accountable. The tasks are huge, but not insurmountable as I'm having to do all my build work by myself. Contractors are either non-existent in this post-pandemic marketplace, or they have so much work they are 3 months out! I'll be posting up here as I make

Good luck, let us know what you choose and how it turned out,
      -Brett
