Mat or build for Gung ho strip

Any links to a platform build using the gung ho strip? Or would a cheaper mat work? Which ones?

I have HG Strip in a DIY platform in my garage. Did the platform so I could level it easily as my garage floors slope away from the house. Also wanted to be able to move it easily in the event I needed to park a car in the bay. It works well however I may rebuild it using a proper stance mat with HG insert into that. The inexpensive HD outdoor rug I currently have on the platform will get worn down after about a year. Already had to replace it. To soften the stance part there are interlocking foam tiles under the HD outdoor rug. There is a ramp on the front for putting.

Thanks, is that 2 pieces of 1/2" plywood with some shims?

If changing to stance mat you would use that on plywood vs tiles and HD carpet? Link to mat?

Only a 2nd piece serves as the bottom of the recessed part where the insert goes. As the platform is raised on the back end (away from the screen) to account for the slope of the floor, I needed a bottom for the HG hitting strip insert to sit on so that it remains flush with the top of the platform. The platform sits on wooden strips of varying thickness to achieve a level-hitting surface. Very solid very stable.

If and when I change to a stance mat I will lay the mat on plywood and level the plywood. This potentially would be an easier and more durable solution however it will weigh more and cost more. I am researching stance mats that I could cut an insert into. I may just stick with the platform and resign to changing the rug part every six months as it was only $19 for the outdoor rug.

I used something similar on top of mine, indoor/outdoor green carpet, but just on top of my platform. It was quite firm. I ended up switching that to STI NP50 and have been using it for years. It lays directly on top of the wood platform with no need for any underlayment and it hasn't developed any wear/depressions from my stance.

I see now..turf..How does it attach to the
wood platform?

I just use a few screws around the perimeter, i think like 3 or 4 along the sides. They get completely hidden below the fibers.

What is STI NP 50?

It's a putting surface made by Synthetic Turf International. Several people (myself included) use it as an overall surface for putting and stance mat, and then just have a hitting mat insert. https://synthetic-turf.ca/products/putting-greens/np50/

Same here. They told me to tape it. Now that I bought one, easy to duplicate. Videos on YT. Disappointing as the margin should allow them to ship 4 or 5 replacements before they risk breaking even.

This is similar to my plan, I was going to use a sheet of plywood with a cutout for a DIY divot type strip I found on YouTube, then instead of using firm foam front and rear like Holy Grail I was going to router a recess 1" wide on each end so the hitting strip sits flush with top of plywood so for a 12 x24 hitting strip I would cutout 12x22 then router the last inch on each end so it stits flush and secure. Same idea of foam under plexi strip with putting turf glued to top of plexi and rest of plywood for exact turf match. Should be clean and secure with recess section of plywood snug fit to hold in place on sides so it doesn't bow up if I pressure fit the ends in recess. If it wears out simply buy a new piece of plexi attach new turf on top and foam on bottom. Good video on YouTube on how to make DIY strip cheap.
