  • Landing mat ideas

Looking for ideas for a landing mat, but with some specific requirements. Simulator will be in the garage, and there is already rubber workout tile flooring, so whatever landing pad material will be placed on top of that. They key is i want the material to be somewhat lightweight and be able to be rolled up so that it can be put away when not in use (the rubber tiles will always be on the floor though). The rubber tile flooring already dampens bounce quite a bit already but want something on top. Also, no putting, so thats not a concern.

So you want something for aesthetics?
    Grass like I presume?
Preference for short or long blades?
    Dimensions?
Budget? I've seen turf from $0.83/sq ft upwards to $5/sq ft.

the rubber tiles i have now do a decent job of stopping bounce (at least compared to concrete), but the ball will start to roll back super fast on the rubber. so looking for something to slow the ball down on the way back. i have looked at different options for turf for a landing mat/area, but my concern is if it is going to start to get too heavy to want to roll up and move around. haven't figured out the exact size, but roughly 10 X 5 up to 10 X 7 or so.

My sim is also in my garage but its not portable as you seem to want. The floor is concrete, then I have 1 inch foam workout tiles on top of that, then grasstex artificial turf on top of that.

I've spent hours trying to eliminate bounce-back but I still had a problem with low shots coming back "hot" and bouncing on my turf. My solution isn't the prettiest but 100% effective.

I wrapped 1.5 inch gel mattress pad in a heavy blanket and put that on the floor in front of my screen. Now when balls hit it they die almost immediately or they barely dribble back.

Wow frodaddy00 - I don't think I could handle something that big in my space in front of screen. I have limited space to start with and want to be able to putt in that area. I wonder if you could do what I've done - just improve your Impact Screen system and you get almost ZERO bounceback!

I did that last week - pics to follow later tonight in my Golf Sim Shed Build post here:
Hi Everyone, I'm starting this post as a way to keep myself accountable. The tasks are huge, but not insurmountable as I'm having to do all my build work by myself. Contractors are either non-existent in this post-pandemic marketplace, or they have so much work they are 3 months out! I'll be posting up here as I make

I have spent hours trying to fix the bounceback. Hours is probably more like 60-80 range. I have foam hanging behind my sim. I tried a second impact screen behind it. The only way I don't get hot bouncebacks is if I have the screen so loose that the picture looks terrible. I'm starting to think its a design flaw in the carlofet impact screens where they velcro on all four sides.. it acts like a trampoline.

frodaddy00 - I got the post up of hanging my screen, have a look. I don't have any bounce back problems since going to this new method. I have an 801 (3 layer screen) hanging behind and spread-out (width and length-wise) with tarp clips and bungees (even at the bottom). Then, I have a loose hanging (on bottom) White Photo Backdrop screen hanging, in front of the impact screen, to just barely touch the top of my turf. The other 3 sides of the photo backdrop screen are also clipped into the top & 3 sides, here's the post showing it:

I don't have any experience with turfs as I'm still contemplating which landing turf to go with my self. But I wonder if a medium pile grass would work.

The TrafficMaster Fescue from HomeDepot weighs about 7oz per square foot. So your 10x7 would weigh about 30 lbs. Benefit is you can see and feel it in person and get free in-store delivery assuming a HD is near by...

I also stumbled upon MegaGrass recently which can be found on Walmart's website which provides free in-store shipping as well. https://megagrass.com/pages/artificial-grass
Six types of options there and they'll send you free 4x4 samples which is nice (well almost free...6 bucks for shipping).

Looking for a similar landing mat solution for the garage. And ideally something that I can drive partially over with my car. I saw this on way fair….any thoughts on whether this would work?
