  • Is Divot Action out of business?

I recall from another post that the owner of Divot Action unfortunately died from Covid at the end of 2021. I was curious if anyone knows if the business is still ongoing? My divot action strip I've had for 2ish years finally cracked last night and this mat completely cured all of my elbow and rib pain I had using other mats. I'd like to order a replacement but from calling them... it seems that the store may be closed for good. Just thought I'd check if anyone knows for sure before I start looking at replacement options. Thanks.

From what I have seen is the website certs are out of date and no emails are being replied too unfortunately. I am in the same boat as you but down the road as I bought a back two in my last order. Most likely checking out GungHo holy grail strip next.

Thanks for the reply. I was reading about the holy grail and see they offer it in custom sizes, so I may see if I can get one cut to fit exactly in the divot action size I have, which would be great if I can pull that off.

I purchased a custom sized holy grail strip last year to replace my divot action strip and it has worked well. The height is slightly shorter than their standard sizes.

Scottygolf, how did you trim it down? I decided to order a standard strip even though it looks like it’ll be an 1/8” taller than my stance mat (which I plan to cut a strip into to fit this). The custom size was so much more expensive I figured I’d give this a try first.

Scottygolf just to clarify I ordered a custom height that is same height as divot action. The hitting strip sits flush with my stance mat that I got with original DivotAction. In your case you might need a slightly different height.

I used a sharp box cutter to shave off what I wanted of the foam. I may just order one to size and width and figure if I need to raise or lower.

I ran into the same problem about a year ago - so I made my own hitting strip for under $45 using Lexan (plexiglass), light lens spring clips, and weatherseal. It fits perfectly into the DivotAction stance mat including height. I just made another one recently for a friend and it works great too. I glued the weatherseal to the bottom of Lexan at the front and back to give it the proper height and support at the ends. I velcro’d the hitting mat to the Lexan to help it stay in place on top rather than gluing it down so I can easily replace the hitting turf without having to change out the Lexan. I just used duct tape to hold the spring clips to the bottom rather than screws or glue. I pull it up periodically to see if the clips need any adjusting but they rarely do. I’ve been hitting off this one daily for about a year and it seems to be holding up better than the original and I haven’t had to replace the hitting turf yet. I got the Lexan from Home Depot ($18) where the size is 12”x24”x0.93”, the 1’ x 2’ hitting mat from Allturfmats ($20), weatherseal foam for support underneath ($5 on Amazon or at Home Depot), and spring clips ($5 for pack of 10) from 1-800-ceiling. I’ll try to attach pictures. Here are the links:

Pictures would be great if you can find them please. I'm struggling to understand how duct-taping those clips works and keeps them in place and thinking a photo might help. Thank you!

I originally used the duct tape as a temporary hold for the clips until I could think of a better way to secure them to the Lexan. But I was surprised how well it held up. The hitting strip fits snugly into the cut out in the stance mat so that helps keep the clips from turning over, which is what I thought would happen, but they don’t. The tape just keeps them from sliding around. The clips help provide resistance support in the middle and they’ve held their shape for over a year with daily use.

Thanks! The pictures helped a ton. I also cannot believe the carpet stays attached with just those tiny Velcro strips but obviously it’s working for you just fine. Thank you again for the help. Going to see if I can cancel my holy grail strip and get to DIYing this repair.

Hi DivotTool - thanks for the detailed breakdown on parts and construction. I’m in the same situation as others, except I cannot buy from GungHo golf as they won’t ship to Canada. So DIY construction seems like the best option. I have the lexan and turf and I can source the weather stripping. Sadly the spring clips which I’m struggling to find in Canada your source want $55 for shipping (!) so I’m going to have to keep hunting online. I figured they’d be easy to find but no luck as yet. If any Canucks have an online source please let me know.

I created my own as well but used a different foam. Not sure how you would use the clips and if they are really that important. I would say it's more important to prep the Lexan for gluing the turf and getting the proper adhesive.

I rough-sanded the Lexan and cleaned it with alcohol. Spread out the adhesive on both the Lexan and turf then apply them together with a large flat weight for over 24 hrs.

The first one I tried ripped the turf up after 3 months of heavy use. This one is going strong for 6 months now with no issues.

Also, I used less foam on the bottom to make it a softer feel. I think the standard foam layout people use was still too stiff. Just a preference though.

A decent guide on how to make it.

I also made a DIY divot action that has worked well. I tried the option of using springs under the lexan, but that didn't work for me. The springs were probably not the right tension. I then ordered foam from McMasters Carr and that has worked really well. You can easily cut foam with a bread knife or an electric knife (the ones used to carve turkeys). I put foam at the extremes of the lexan and some bits in the middle too, otherwise the strip would sag too much in the middle.

The other thing that has worked really well is the turf: I used Synlawn Precision Putt, which has worked extremely well... no tear outs or bunching. I used double-side carpet tape to attach it to the lexan. The advantage of the carpet tape is that it's easy to replace, though I've had no need to replace it in a year+.

This DIY divot action has allowed me to heal from elbow pain I got from using a cheap callaway matt.

myrison, I didn't purchase it online. There's a Synlawn warehouse about 1-1/2 hour drive from home. I called and asked to see if they could sell me a piece of remnant, and they said yes, so I went ahead and drove there and purchased it. I also purchased another piece of longer grass that you could use for simulating rough, but I haven't used it yet. It was worth the 3hr trip cause the turf is really good quality.

BTW, my lexan/polycarbonate sheet is 3/16" thick. I bought it from Amazon. But it does sag about 1/8" over its length. I made it a 24" x 12" piece. Perhaps it's the length, or the stiffness of the sheet I got, but with a few pieces of foam in the middle it works well. My elbow pain is healed.

Thanks for the reply. Got it. I'll stick with what I have for now and if I need to build a new one, I'll give them a ring.

s0707 - could you take a pic of that rought strip you bought? How long is the grass on that strip - and have you made a hitting strip out of it yet (assume that's the plan)?

Here is a thread on how I made my diy divot action. The key for me was getting a little thicker piece 3/16 vs 3/32 which is usually sold at most HD stores.
So I have been using a combination of various diy mat types and setups and figured I would rebuild a stance platform and hitting area to accommodate all the

FYI that I finished up my DIY replacement for the "style 2 - Divot Action to Go" today and it's working!

It ever so slightly more firm than the first one, which comes from a combination of the thicker lexan (definitely a bonus) and the replacement turf having a thicker backing than the original.

It's too early to tell if this is going to change anything in using the mat, but so far it doesn't, I just notice that it is a bit different at impact. below are some photos... a side by side photo of the homemade DA mat along with the original one that cracked. You can see how the thicker Lexan and turf mean I had to cut down the weatherstripping foam more to achieve the same height. I used the parts recommended by DivotTool a bit further up in this topic, but did end up using carpet tape instead of adhesive as I already had some on hand.

DivotTool - I went with your suggestion of just duct taping down the fan clips as well. No need to complicate things further if this worked for you! by the way, how in the world did you find the exact same clips that DivotAction used on their original mat. They are identical as far as I can tell, nice reverse engineering!

If I can help anyone else with questions, let me know please. I'd love to return the favor that others have done for me in this thread.

myrison - so on the left you duct tape the clips down? I can't see that... looks like they are glued here? That Lexan is quite a bit thicker for sure... which Lexan is that - can you drop the link in please, I see, you mention this one (from DivotTool: https:/www.homedepot.com/p/LEXAN-12-in-x-24-in-x-093-in-Clear-Polycarbonate-Sheet-GE-33/202038063

Can't wait to try this out myself. Thanks!

Actually I took that photo before I taped them, but I did end up just putting duct tape on them and as another poster said above, it works surprisingly well. Here is a link to the lexan I ordered off amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Hobby Lobby or any craft shop that does picture framing should have those clips. They are used to hold picture in the back of the frames..
