  • Bullseye hitting strip

This is a quick review of the Bullseye hitting strip. I have tested numerous hitting strips including Fiberbuilt, real Divot action as well as DIY divot action, Country club elite etc. I like rotating hitting strips weekly for different feel and to minimize wear. The Bullseye mat is excellent. The thickness is about 1 1/2 inches and is available in different cut out sizes. My size is 12 X 24.

The mat is high quality for sure. Although the feel is like taking a divot it will mimic a fat shot if you’re too steep. It is excellent on the joints (wrist, elbow) for all fat shots. The mat will take a real tee and is also great for putting. I will keep you all posted if it wears over time but my guesse is not as it feels very durable.

Thanks, been researching this mat. It's the same material as the Tartan Turf Champion which is available in 5' x 5' mat. The more a research and hit the couple I have at home (Monster Mat and Matzilla), seems like the shorter turf >1" with nice padding feels the best to me.

    2 questions:

    1. Is the backing on this similar to your CCE or is it softer?
    2. Any chance you have ever tried a Monster Mat? If so, how are they different?

So I have had the Bullseye hitting strip in play for about a week now and I must say I am very impressed. Based on reviews I decided to give it a try as a drop in replacement for my Fiberbuilt Grass series combo mat. I ordered the 12" x 46.5" option for $189 Cdn (about $140 USD). To my pleasant surprise, Rick emailed me within an hour to confirm the order and I had a FEDEX tracking number by the end of the day. As it turns out, this shipped from near Cornwall, ON and was at my door inside of 48 hours. Here are my initial thoughts:
      • I really like the ability to set the iron behind the ball without having it fall into the grass fibers on my Grass series mat.
      • Mat takes a real tee. I was never a fan of the Fiberbuilt tee system and could never get the FB tee low enough for a 3 wood tee shot, so this is a positive IMO.
      • Mat fits exactly into the space for the Fiberbuilt grass section in my combo mat. It is actually about 1/2-1/3rd of an inch shorter as well so it is actually a better fit wrt level surface.
      • I also like putting off the mat. The grass series is a bit artificial putting-wise, so we used auto-putt regularly. Very smooth transition to my combo mat.
      • Color of the mat is not ideal, but I got over that pretty quickly.
      • I find the mat as forgiving as the Grass series, with a little better feedback for heavy shots. time will tell but no stress of pain after a week of pretty heavy use.
Overall, very pleased with the mat and it has replaced my grass series insert for at least the time being.

To me, seems like the class "Tee line" mats have too much grain. You either get depressions over time and there are subtle high spots and it's almost like how the rough can "tee your ball up" at times.

If I am seeing this correctly, Bullseye looks like the fibers have almost no gain and there is no high / low spots?

Could either of you take a picture close up of the Turf from the top down? Like how a ball would sit on it?

Sure - here you go. Olive green is my Fiberbuilt Stance section of my Combo Mat. Brighter green is the Bullseye hitting strip. Height matches my combo mat much better than the FB Grass series section interestingly enough. So far - very pleased.

I probably would've bought this by now if the color wasn't so hideous. Does anyone have a comparison vs holy grail?

Ha - yeah, not my first choice in color, that said I am over it and I am really liking the hitting strip so far. It is actually less obnoxious in person ......

The color is a big turn off for me also. Plus with EZ Tee Hybrid I got a larger mat with a longer track record for a lower price.

I pulled the trigger on the 5 x 5' Mat...

With that said, holy shit, this thing is it. I have tried EZ Tee, Monster Mat, Matzilla, and Fiberbuilt in the last month. It's just a touch softer than EZ Tee which gives the fat shots a more realistic feel. It's less fluffy than the Fiberbuilt, so the strikes feel more true. It has the nice 5/8 pad underneath so I have hope the impact absorption is there.

Kudos to Bulleye for finding and promoting this project. I contacted Tartan Turf to look for a local demo opportunity and they connected me with their local rep. He met me a driving range, let me demo it, and bought it onsite. If anyone is interested in this mat, do the same! Aside from the demo opportunity, the hitting strip and mat are significantly less expensive through a local dealer. My Mat was cheaper than EZ Tee and I found a local Syn Turf dealer who was selling the mat for less than SimTurf.

Only "negatives"? The color is hot green. For people like myself keeping it simple with a 5 X 5', it's a bit fluffy for stance.

Also, they do sell a combo mat like Fiberbuilt with a thinner stance mat, the hitting strip, and a plastic holder.

                    Here are some more pics.

Glad you liked it TGNgolf. It truly is a nice mat. I like it better than my divot action mat. T is nicer than cce for sure. The color is bold but to be frank it doesnt bother me at all.

I have been hitting of my Bullseye hitting strip since August. No joint pain and very little signs of wear. I probably hit about 500 shots a day. Golf season just opened up here. So won’t be back on sim till end of August again.

Yikes! That is a lot of Golf! I feel great if I can top 100 or so in a range session.

Has anyone has issues getting a GC3 to recognize the ball on bullseye hitting strip? I have a similar fiber built mat as above and bought the bullseye strip to relieve joint pain, but now my GC3 picks up like 50% of shots. Had zero issues before when everything was a solid olive color. Any remedies?
