Flooring to stand in question

I've opted for a fairly premium putting turf for my sim floor. It has about 1/4 rubber backing. I want something firm to stand in so I don't feel like I'm hitting off a "platform" , however I want to add padding so the balls don't bounce. Is laying down insulation going to feel like I'm standing on a platform? Would home Depot foam squares be too unstable?
