    Underpad

I have an inexpensive hitting mat, GoSports Hitting Mat. My only complaint is that I have shoulder pain. So I’m looking to add some support between the hitting mat and the concrete floor. Currently have a flat surface as the surrounding foam tiles are the same depth as the hitting mat.
Should I use…. Foam tiles? Memory foam?

I also thought that having the part of the hitting mat that you stand on to be supported by wood while the swing side being supported by something softer.

I'd recommend to buy a good quality insert and use the cheap one for your stance. Adding padding under the mat may not help as it could be the mat surface causing the issue

How thick is the mat? Perhaps post a picture so we understand. I agree that you should look at cutting out a 12 X 24 or 1302 X 36 area in the mat so you can try different inserts. The strike point in any mat will obviously wear out over time so having different insert is a nice and cheap way to rotate the strike area and use inserts that are more forgiving on the joints. There are many options including Bullseye, Holy Grail, Divot Action. The Bullseye is a very good option that is easy on the joints.
