    Hitting Mat Turf length

    Hi Guys,

I am trying to build a hitting mat with a lexan base and hopefully some sort of foam backing. I can't figure out the type of turf I need. I don't live in a country where I can order these things from the known re-sellers so I need to do a bit of digging. I have gotten a line on some turf that is 7 mm and 12 mm in thickness. The seller says that 7 mm is used for putting and 12 mm to replicate the fairway. Is this correct? Any advice on which length to get would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

I did a poor job on my diy mat, so I would go with the longer length. I ended up ordering a hitting strip and cut out a spot in my hitting mat to drop the strip into.

Thanks! I bought some PE based mat locally. It is around 12 mm in length I believe. I'm building a hitting mat using Gym Tile/Melamine lengths for support,PolyCarbonate, Yoga Mat and then the Turf (in that order); hopefully the Yoga Mat and PC do a good job of offering damping capabilities. Will post some pictures once I put the whole thing to-gether over the next couple of days.
