  • Standing on an EZ Tee Hybrid Mat ?

I'm kind of making myself crazy about a new mat for my outdoor cage. As a preface, I prefer a single mat for stance and hitting for convenance but not at the cost of utility, I'm looking in the 4'x6' to 5'x5' size range, and I'd like to keep the price under $500.

I've mostly settled on an EZ Tee Hybrid for the hitting surface. Is it too soft to be stable & comfortable when standing on on?

If so I'll need to cut a strip into a stance mat. USA Turf Pros has a cheap one that advertises the same 1-1/8" height as the EZ Tee (link) so I probably wouldn't have to start layering tiles. A used mat from Rawhide would also work but the strip would need a ~3/8" foam pad.

Going the other direction, I could just commit to a Monster Mat 2.0 that's generally considered fine to stand on, hope it's good to hit on, and know I can cut in an EZTee strip if injury starts creeping in.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I bought a decent sized piece of the EZ Tee Hybrid as I planned to use it to make hitting inserts and replace them over time as they wore out. I did roll out the piece I had to see if I could just use the whole thing to hit off of and I didn't like the feeling under my feet as it wasn't stable. It's great to hit the ball off of, just not great to stand on.

I've been using the EZ Tee for over a year now (5x5). I bought it for the safety of my Elbows and wrists, which it does very well. It is slightly softer than standing on packed ground. If you've ever hit a tee ball on the course where the grass on the tee was a little long, that is somewhat the feel. The first couple of hits were strange, but I quickly adjusted to it and now don't even notice it. The mat is wearing very well. I do rotate it every few months- more for the wear under the foot area vs the hitting area, as being soft it will develop a bit of a depression where your feet stand if you don't give it a rest and rotate it some, or move the ball position around. Moving the foot position around seems to allow the grass to revert to normal height in those used stance areas, so it is not permanent. There is no wear at all from the ball hitting area, and no Green Mat transfer to the clubs. You can use a tee in the mat, but I prefer to use the Birdie tees, or one of the cheap knock-offs you can get on Amazon. I use a TeeClaw as an alignment aid for my feet, and I use a second Teeclaw string on that line to tie to one of the Birdie Tees, so it doesn't fly away on every hit. Chasing the tees was a pain.

OP HERE - I contacted SimTurf customer service and they directed me to a local indoor Trackman range that uses the 5x10 EZTee Hybrid mats. Went over to the place today at lunch, stood on the mat, took a couple swings. Standing on the mat is WAY better than my current Fiberbuilt Practice Station with a yoga mat under it to make it level. I was wearing leather soled dress shoes and could stand to lose several pounds and I didn't find it soft of squishy underfoot. Think I'm going to skip a separate stance mat for now knowing that if I made a mistake I can always add a cheap one later.

"any regrets on choosing 5x5 over the 4x6 for about the same price?" No, with the 5 x 5 it makes it easy to rotate. The 4 x 6 could only be flipped once, while the 5 x 5 can go 4 times. It also allows me to move the ball position around a little more, so not always in the same spot.
