  • How does hitting on a putting green affect your knees?

I’ve been planning on having a 16x9 screen with a putting green as the flooring. I want to cut a section of the green out that’s just big enough for a hitting strip, so I’d be standing on the putting green while hitting. Does anyone have this set up or have any thoughts about it? Could this lead to knee issues? Will the green wear out quickly where my feet are? I know I won’t be able to wear normal golf shoes, but would I need to wear tennis shoes or something similar? Any insight would be appreciated!

I'm not quite sure what your question is here: are you concerned with the difference in height between a hitting mat over (or in) a putting green or are you concerned with the 'grab' of a putting surface on your knees? Which putting surface are you planning on using? Can you expand on your installation?

Sure! My idea is to get 1” foam tiles and put an indoor putting green turf on top. I’ll then cut a section out that a hitting strip can fit in. That will be flush with the green/foam tiles so I was wondering if if that setup is as good as an actual hitting mat that has a hitting strip built in? This are built to stand on for long periods of time and I wasn’t sure how a putting green would affect knees or anything else

OK - well in that case I would expect it to work very similar to a full matt. Many matts in fact have a cutout as you describe for the hitting strip portion so you do not need to replace the whole matt when the hitting area wears out. Whether it affects your knees I suppose is a personal thing, but I would expect it to be no better of worse than a dedicated matt.
