  • Feedback on turf under-padding

    Hi all,

New to the forum and been doing a lot of reading/research on a home DIY sim setup.

I was gifted a turf from a golf range. It's roughly 1" thick but has no under-padding at all (see similar picture below). In order to save my joints, I'm looking for some feedback on some under-padding options. I've seen the most common suggestion would be EVA foam mats but I've also seen people use soft foam strips under the hitting area for more cushioning. I was thinking of building a 1" thick EVA foam mat base and cutting out a hitting strip section with a 1" thick yoga mat in place.

My fear is that the EVA foam mats are too rigid and won't provide as much cushioning as a yoga mat. Thoughts?

Is that a Matzilla mat? I have a new build and I used this mat. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017DTZ9EW
It is 1.25" thick with a backing much like you show. I layed out 1/2" foam tiles on my whole area and have a putting carpet on top of that.
I was planning on doing a cutout to drop the mat in but I am now thinking I will just have the mat sitting on top of all that.

New to the forum, tried to upload a picture but not sure how.
