  • Big Moss Pure Flight Premium hitting strip

The quest to get a realistic hitting strip that doesn't break the bank continues and the PureFlight premium strip from Big Moss golf is a fantastic contender. Big Moss is a turf company in the US that make premium putting and simulator turf, enclosures, impact screen, launch monitors and accessories.

I have been testing the Pureflight premium hitting strip and I am very, very impressed. They have 3 hitting strip options with their Pureflight as the most premium strip. Ordering was easy online and the strip was quickly shipped via UPS. It was well packed sent flat and not rolled up. They also send a bonus birdie like short and long tees as well as turf tape if one wants to secure it better to the floor in your mat.

Specs - 2 different sizes available at 12 X 29 or 12 X 58.5 both 1.5" in thickness. The strip is a premium nylon turf on a 5/8 high impact foam underside. The nylon turf is similar to a plush fairway. The turf holds a real tee and is light green.

Feel - The turf feels great on impact and is easy on the body. No issues with my wrist or shoulders at all. Fat shots are punished but clean shots feel like a true divot. The turf is not grabby at all. The turf has a feel more like a plush fairway not a tight, hard lie. It feels excellent with all clubs. Chipping and flop shots are absolutely great! The feedback from the turf is great.

Puttability - The turf also allows for a true putting roll if used to putt.

Durability - The unit feels solid. How it will hold up in time will be seen and I will keep you all posted.

I am very impressed with the Big Moss Pure Flight hitting strip. This is a very reasonably priced strip that provides a realistic turf experience for indoor simulation. The ball spin and launch data has been solid. Highly recommended!!

Another great thing with the mat is it shows up as dark with the Protee VX infrared. Even though the Big Moss Pure Flight is light green it looks much more dark to the cameras. This allows the ball to have great contrast against the mat. I suspect others systems will see it the same way. Spin and ball launch numbers are spot on and no misreads/non reads at all.

I wonder if anyone has looked up and documented the IR albedo or reflectance of different hitting strips/turfs. Do manufacturers even supply that information? I guess its pretty niche so probably not.

It's a great question Yrrdead81. I have several different hitting strips so I will try and post what each one looks like.
