  • Floor tiles/absorption material/portable - concrete garage

Hey guys - checking to see if anyone else has come up with any unique ways to solve the problem: Ball bounces off impact screen onto floor and it bounces all over the garage

    Goals:
    - Portable, able to move it off the floor for storage elsewhere (easily)
    - Ball hits ground and stops dead
    - Relatively cheap, but material that won't need to be replaced often if at all

Right now I've got a couple pieces of carpet down but that still allows for a pretty huge bounce. Optimal solution would be something I can hang on the side wall and bring down to the floor when it's in use.

I know it might be messy, but what about sand? Have you tried to loosen the impact screen so there is more give?

That would work, but way too messy. This is in my garage where I'll still be parking cars in the winter. Thanks for the suggestion though. I did loosen it a but last night, and that helped, I may loosen the top a bit more, but either way the ball will eventually hit the ground and bounce.. and bounce.. and bounce

I put down some foam interlocking exercise tiles (cheap at Walm...), covered with indoor outdoor fake grass carpet. Greatly reduced bounce. To hang on the wall you might try gluing the foam to thin plywood. You can also try dropping a loose pile of netting (avail at eba... or amaz...) near the base of the screen. This will catch many balls and need not be highly impact resistant because it's only catching the dropping balls.

Cool thanks. I was looking at various types of tiles at home depot, i think that probably will be the way to go.

I also adjusted the tension on my screen enough to where it's not as bad a bounce back.

I'd like to build it so that I can move it out of the way, so maybe I'll put a thin sheet of plywood underneath.

Bean bag .. Probably have to custom make them but if you have 4 or more beans bags (It's moveable and not to heavy) just have to find the beans filler in bulk .. Sand b cloth bags would work but would be heavy ..

Maybe a few pillows? I like the bean bag idea from above

My SIM is in basement on concrete floor like a garage. I used rubber stall mats from Tractor Supply under my carpet and it deadens the ball bounce off my screen very well. They are 4ft X 6ft and are under $40 per mat.

I would check out Foam Factory and order a piece of foam from them. They will send you samples and you can pick what would work best for you. Currently I have a piece of 3lb foam that I am using for something else, but in the meantime, I just placed it on the floor between the mat and screen. Ball hits the screen, falls to the foam and stops. I can reach with my club and pull the ball back to the hitting zone now. Depends on where most of the shots drop, you could get by with a 2 ft wide piece maybe and then you would never worry about stepping on it.

I use a 3x6 exercise mat. It stops about 80% of the balls. Good strikes drop and stop. Mat rolls up when not in use.

for flooring i did interlocking puzzle piece exercise foam mats from amazon. I have TFD putting green turf over it and it looks pretty good with fairly low bounce.

I've also found that a combination of memory foam ( i used 3in thick) and the EVA exercise foam over it (facing impact) and this deadens all bounce. I assume this would work really well behind a screen as well.
