Hitting Strip - UK

Hi All

I see quite a few nice looking DIY builds on here that show a strip of good quality (divot action type I guess) turf for the hitting area, and then any sort of generic astro-turf for stance. For the UK where is the best place to get these quality strips that last (and ones that will take a tee would be preferred) and how much do they go for? What different options are there for good quality contact that generates accurate spin and feel? I can see the Truestrike and Divot-Action websites, but these are all US and when I look at the UK distributors they all seem to be selling 600-800GBP for entire systems with stance turf and rubber surround.

I have looked at the Huxley mats (Golf Hux Mat 300, which is 228GBP on Amazon as I have a cousin who recommends Huxley), but again, this is the whole mat and I don't think it will take a tee.

Any thoughts or tips would be appreciated.

got mine off ebay US for about £40 - its a country club elite hitting strip - amazing mats that take real tees and let you hit down and through the ball and also penalise a fat shot - 10 inches by 48 inches.

Rest of the mat was regular artificial grass at 40mm height and quite dense which cost £25 for 2x1 meters - means I stand at the same height as the strip and its all very level - all glued onto a 10mm thick heavy duty rubber mat, works like a charm, all for under £100 - and I can hit from 'rough' or fairway.

I didn't want to spend the $ on an elite mat without seeing one. So i did the same thing. I ordered the 10 x 30 strip to check it out. I like the material and wanted to hit off it. The strip was 3/4 thicker than my mat. I framed my mat and elite strip with four 2 x 4s. Then i built up my mat with 3/4 inch insulation type board to match the elite strip. The down side i lost 3/4 inch of ceiling height but i think the elite material is awesome. I also feel my original mat is better now that it is on a softer surface. I didn't intend to use the strip but now i don't see a reason to buy a $449 mat!

I thought Truestrike was from UK, you could look at them as well. Although it might not fit the look you are going for it is a good quality mat.

I want a quality mat that punishes the fat shots and can take a tee. I like the Huxley, the best UK quality mat, but it cannot take a tee.

Anyone in the UK used the Tee Up Turf Mats or Strips?

I've chosen the pro-tee turf 2 from Huxley. I got a sample sent and it seems very plush.

Hi all, i want to build my hitting strip into a slightly raised wooden frame to keep it all the same height and surround it with the cheaper turf that i have seen done on here and looks great. Does anyone in the UK know where to get the cheaper surrounding turf from?

I bought a 5' by 5' CCE mat imported from US mainly due to lack of DIY skills! I wouldn't care too much about taking a tee - I simply use assorted rubber tees and don't see any issues.
As for other turf, you can often find good artificial grass offcuts at a fraction of the cost of a specified roll.
