  • truestrike mat and transitioning off the mat?

is there a way to make a smooth transition off the truestrike gel hitting area, either the full mat or just the hitting strip, onto the rest of the turf flooring as to 1) not interfere with ball roll on putting, and 2) look asthetically appealing?

How tall is the mat? how tall is the separate hitting strip?

I'd like to use the truestrike, but those logos on the mat are a huge drawback for me.

    thanks!

    Hi Richdmb

Are you still using your TrueStrike?, and did you ever come up with a work around?
I am sure a lot of people are put off with the Logos, especially for the clean Sim room look.
Not sure what the designers were thinking

I just used a piece of very inexpensive turf I have on my garage floor to make a ramp of sorts. I use a skytrak and all the matter is the first few inches anyways. It just took a few putts to figure out my "stimp" If my ball just touches the screen it's about a 20' putt on JNPG.

So, I’ve looked into this some more.

The Truestrike hitting mat comprises of a very thin (~1-2mm) strip of grass over the gel section, which sits within a 25mm (1”) thick foam frame, which in turn sits within the plastic structural frame.

This connects to the stance mat sections.

IMO, the plastic frame is for outdoor use, to give it extra weight so it doesn’t move around. If using indoors, the stance mats and plastic frames really have no use, and it would be better to insert the foam and gel sections into your putting green / stance mat (if you have a permanent set-up).

Due to the ‘grass’ to the centre of the hitting strip wearing away, I’ve been using the outer edges - I now realise that this is just foam; not gel at all, and I hadn’t noticed any difference!

I’m now thinking to install 25mm foam sub-floor throughout, insert the TS foam and gel insert, then lay the putting green over the lot. The pile on the putting green is much thicker than on the TS (13mm v 1mm).

Any thoughts on this? Especially on hitting off the putting green?

I’m not sure the gel is really necessary TBH with a 25mm thick foam. And I’m guessing I’ll have to swap out the hitting section of grass every now and then.

Hi DannyMRICS , what are the dimensions of the Truestrike without the frame? Thinking about how to embed it as I build a subfloor. Thank you!

          Gosh options,
With regards the TS hitting strip, this obviously gets the wear as to compared to the stance mat. If you were to put putting grass over the whole stance/hitting area in 1 piece, I believe you would compromise the entire mat? So I still think it would require a separate hitting mat. TS have really clamped the hitting strip grass down so it doesn't ride up etc. So you would have to employ a similar clamping method. Possibly using steel angle iron just below the top of the foam height surrounding and locking the TS foam pad in situ, screw iron angle into a plywood base. That leaves just clamping the new hitting surface grass, maybe a frame around the foam that fits snug into the angle iron rectangle surround. Add the new grass and clamp the grass between the angle iron and the frame. Replace hitting grass when necessary. Resulting in a flush putting/stance/ hitting mat, with the same grass thruout if you choose. Just an idea, or reuse the TS plastic hitting grass clamping frame.
I'm not at this stage yet, concrete pad goes down on Friday, but interested in how or what you decide to do DannyMRICS.

            Ps

I couldn't help myself and I had to take a look inside this afternoon, It is very doable.
I compared my sample putting grass to the TS and it looks near identical in pile type density and thickness, so a replacement hitting grass wouldn't be a problem. I would go with 25mm angle internal frame and 20mm x 2mm flat bar for clamping. One would concoct some locating for the foam and if a ply base were incorporated it would be near identical.

My TS hitting strip grass pile looks to be virtually non-existent at around 1-2mm, compared to my potential putting green pile of 13mm.

I'm thinking with a metal frame it would be more difficult to obtain a smooth transition from hitting strip to putting green, and I'm wondering if that is over complicating it. I'm thinking to use the same grass for hitting strip and putting green, but just to stick the hitting strip grass down to the foam with tape or glue, then swap out when it is worn ....

The same grass would definitely give a clean look. I'll think more about my install and post once I have made a decision.
In the meantime have a read of the following link.

Maybe not the exact look you want, but I have a small piece of low pile green indoor carpet cut the same shape as the logo and glued to the logo. This carpet is slightly lower than the hitting surface. The putt rolls smooth off the hitting surface with no issue. It also happens to be the same carpet I used to carpet the area in front of my screen, so it blends in some.

You should check out proputtsystems as they have ways to embed the truestrike mat into the floor.
