  • Projector Placement

I apologize in advance if this is a dumb question. So Ive decided to take the plunge and set up a garage simulator. I have a question about projector placement. Based on my ceiling height a ceiling mounted projector doesn't seem to be in the cards. Now putting the projector on the floor, is it possible to have it not set in the center and adjust the picture? Ideally, I'd have the ball teed up center of the screen, then the skytrak, then the projector next to the skytrak. This would mean the projector is not sitting dead center of the screen. I am unfamiliar with projectors. Are there settings that will allow me to adjust the picture to display correctly even though the unit is set up offcenter?

If so, what projectors have these settings and which would you recommend?

    Thanks

Horizontal lens shift, not sure of which models though.

Why cant you do the ceiling mount? There are projectors with various amounts of screen offset and extension poles to drop down further if needed.

do the ceiling mount with extension pole, its the best way, centered and at the correct height.

        Or just custom DIY one.

My ceiling is only 8 and half feet high. I was worried I'd hit the projector when swinging a driver. My dimensions are 10ft width. 8.5 ft height and 13 ft depth. Where in relation to the screen (assuming it is 10ft by 8ft) would the projector go? If the Mat is set up 5 or 6 feet from the screen where would the projector be?

EDIT - Considering the Optoma GT 1080 if that helps.

depending on screen dimensions.......... are those garage dimensions above?

Those are the garage dimensions but I will be having the screen roughly the 8x10 size.

I have 8' ceilings in my basement where my setup is. I've got the projector mounted directly over where the ball sits and don't have issues with hitting the projector. If you think about swing plane, your driver has the flattest of all of your clubs based on the length of the shaft and distance you have to stand from the ball - this puts the projector securely out of harms way. The swings you have to worry about are full wedges since you stand closer to the ball your swing plane is more upright. Pic of my setup attached. I went with the Optoma GT1080 as well and like it so far.

The problem is the width. He will not be hitting the ball into the middle of the screen if he is only 10' wide. He will have to be offset to one side to hit, but the projector will still be in the middle. With this setup, the projector is not directly over the ball/hitting area, it would be behind him and definitely a concern with hitting it.

I have a similar dilemma since I'll be setting mine up for a lefty/righty. I was thinking I would have to have the projector centered above the 6x6 mat and then in theory our heads would be directly below the projector. Should this offset setup be out of harm's way?

a lens shift projector should work fine. In the UK golftechsystems supply one to do exactly as you suggest with their 2.5m by 3m enclosure. Email them and find out the model they use.

HI did you ever come up with a solution, if you have the projector center above the stance mat or above the golfer's head and hitting offset on the mat. Was the projector in harms way.
i am having the same issue my ceiling height is 10.5 feet but my width is only 10 feet and 18 feet deep, 5 foot enclosure with a 9x9 impact screen (146" Diagonal viewing area ) 1:1 aspect ratio using a Optoma EH412ST. Using a 9x9 Fiberbuilt offset combo mat. will put the golfer at about 7-8 feet from the screen
What are the odds of hitting the projector?
According to Projector Central Throw Calculator at the 1:1 ratio the lens has to sit 7'7" from the impact screen which like i mention should be just above the golfer

Please if someone came up with a solution i would love to hear it

I used to have a similar setup where the projector was almost above the hitters head and my ceiling is 1ft less then yours. Never had an issue. I have since redone the room so it is different now. Tape a ballon to the ceiling where the projector is supposed to go and video yourself swinging with all your clubs. I have also made a wooden box for my projector to sit in just to give it extra protection in case of an odd swing.

Thank you for the response but we’re you offset to the right when hitting or center hitting with 10 foot wide which I have I was told I have to hit offset to the right being I’m a right handed golfer

My room was wider. Projector was center and hitting area was offset to the right which put the hitter below the projector.
