I'm constructing a space that is 14' w x 16 d and screen is width of room. The BenQ HT2150ST looks like a pretty good projector but does anyone have experience with something better (brighter or higher resolution)? I haven't been able to find any other short throw projectors greater than >1k but less than $3k that would work better. I do want to use this as a movie room as well so brighter definitely is better.

Have you looked at office projectors? They generally have higher lumens. I'm considering the panasonic pt-vz580 which is within your budget, very bright and has a shortish throw ratio of around 1.07. It is 16:10 native but does 16:9 full hd -
I have not looked at any office projectors but will take a look now. I was hoping for a short throw 4k projector under 3 grand but search not turning anything up. Seems there aren't many short throw projectors.Comment

Nothing available for short throw 4k right now.
Regular, not-short-throw 4k uhd projector (Acer or Optoma) is about $2k. Benq has nothing for 4k that's under $5k. Sony just introduced a new true 4k (not just uhd) projector at CEDIA for $5k (folks are going bonkers about that...I think the Sony sounds kinda meh for $5k).Comment

Anyone have a projector behind them that may or may not get some shadow cast while hitting. Maybe I don't need a short throw if I mount a projector at 10'6" high and have a 8' tall screen. With projector 16' back my head would probably only appear at bottom of screen and then I could have a 4K projector.Comment

Draw it out to scale from a side on view and you'll see how much shadow there will be.
I think 4K projectors are quite low lumens at this sort of price range so you will have to play in a pretty dark environment to avoid a washed out image.Comment
