  • Does 1080P make sense on a 4:3 screen??? TGC Resolution?

Hi guys, I was running a BenQ 632st on my 4:3 screen and I thought the image quality was pretty good. I wanted to take the next step and goto 1080p so I bought the Optoma Gt1080darbee.
I honestly notice no improvement in image quality and I'm having trouble filling the screen because this projector has no zoom.
My question to everyone is, Has anyone noticed any benefit in going to a 1080p projector on a 4:3 screen? I'm wondering if there will be any difference in image quality.
If you are running a 1080p projector on a 4:3 screen, what resolution are you running? And what resolution are you using in TGC?

Yes this was a big improvement in image quality for me. I select 1920 x 1080 and force projector into 4:3. You get more resolution from a 1080 projector in 4:3 vs a SVGA projector which is what I had. Because you coming from WXGA, it may be harder to see difference, but you should still get more resolution from the GT1080. And yes, you will need to move your projector to fill the area you want as it has no zoom.

I just got a GT1080Darbee as part of my build (which I am finally starting). It has digital zoom which can reduce the image size to about 80%. If you need to, you can move the projector further from the screen and then reduce it to fill the screen. I'm 99.9% sure your projector has digital zoom.

I've got a 4:3 screen or pretty close to it, and a Gt1080, I did originally have it set to 1920x1080 in game and then switch the projector to 4:3, but everything look a bit squashed, so instead I now run the game in 1600x1200, which is 1.92million pixels compared to 2.07million for 1080p, not really a noticeable drop in resolution but the correct scale definitely makes it look better to me.

I've got a GT1080Darbee and nowhere can I see any zoom function.

Are you sure it has digital zoom? If so how do you zoom with it?

It does have a digital zoom feature. Thank you guys.
I thought the difference would be a lot more noticeable but maybe it isnt.
I wonder if the Benq 2150st would produce a better image.

ZANE-MAND Also, I was testing it out today... I dont have my netting or screen yet, but do have TGC up and running and etc to test settings.

I have my computer monitor at 1920x1080. My GT1080darbee is connected via hdmi and I am mirroring the display to it. When I launch TGC, in that first popup where you select resolution, I selected 1440x1050 (if I remember correctly) which is a 4:3 aspect ratio but still a very high resolution. Once TGC was running, my projector detected that and it looked great...no squishing of the image (for example the golf ball on the main screen of TGC was actually round, not oval shaped). This image essentially has the same vertical resolution of 1920x1080...it just has slightly less horizontal resoluction...but it is still and HD picture.

Doing this, and using the digital zoom produces a very high quality image that fills up almost my entire screen area.

              hope this helps!

theizer Give 1600x1200 (UXGA) a go when you launch TGC, this is 4:3 and is higher resolution than what your running now, the Optoma Gt1080 can handle this resolution and is nearly 30% more pixels than 1440x1050.

I do see that the GT1080 is capable of WUXGA (1920x1200) so it should be able to project at 1600x1200 if I can get TGC to use that resolution. I have a tv as my computer monitor and is it is not capable of 1600x1200 so I suspect that is why I don't see that option in the drop down since I am mirroring my display to the projector.

Ah, ok on my setup I have my GT1080 as the main display and my monitor as a secondary display and in extended desktop mode, usually I turn it off whilst playing TGC on the projector
            Working...
