Floor Mount Projector

my garage dimensions are 11ft wide by 17ft long, with 9 ft ceilings. I would like to put a floor mounted projector in to use with a new simulator build I am working on. My question is how close to the screen Can I have the projector be it on the floor to safely hit balls? I’m really confused with all of the projectors out now. I’m assuming I need a 4:3 aspect ratio. Ideally I’d like the projector to be as close to the screen as possible. I’d like to purchase a screen that is roughly 10ft wide by 8ft high

It depends on projector's throw ratio and if it has zoom but more so throw. A throw ratio basically tells you how far lens to screen you need to be for a certain screen width. Ie throw ratio of 1:1 would mean you'd have the lens of the PJ 10ft away from the screen for an image width of 10ft. This is all of course if you want the image to cover the entire width of screen. Either way if it's going to be on the floor it needs some sort of protection like the TerraShield

If your PJ is short throw like .49:1 you can have the PJ closer to the screen but maintaining the same width. Ie 4.9 feet away produces a 10 ft wide image. Your ideal distance to screen also varies as you change aspect ratios.

We have been fairly happy with the Optoma GT1080 Darbee. If you are going 4:3 aspect ration then the projector is going to have to be a little further away to fill the screen. If you wanted a 10' wide 4:3 aspect ratio screen then the image height would be 7'6" Tall and with the projector I just listed, it would have to be about 6'8" away from the screen. That is exactly the configuration I use at home. This projector is fairly bright, I wouldn't say it works in full daylight, but in our garage it looks great.

We just bought a new screen from Par2Pro, it is his beta quiet screen. I'll post a review after I receive it next week and get it setup. The price seems reasonable and if I can get some sound reduction and great picture at the same time, then I'll be pretty happy.

I am new but I have been reading a lot of posts on this site. I simply wanted to thank you as the above information confirms what I have been looking into and the additional distance (6'8") at 4:3 really helps me!
