Long throw v short throw and ceiling v wall v side wall mount.

I'm in the UK, I'm in the last stages of a build and need to decide on a projector. Given the work I've done to raise the height in my garage I don't have any easy way to ceiling mount a short throw projector so I'm looking at a long throw option instead. It would seem the majority of people in this forum prefer short throw. In my scenario the projector would be on the wall oposite the screen with a throw of approx 6.5m and the screen is 3mx3m. Any thoughts on projector options for that?

As another thought, is it possible to wall mount a short throw projector and send the image in from the side?

Only have experience using short throw for golf sim's so can't really recommend a projector with any sort of guarantee of if it will work or if it's any good. Having said that have you looked at the Optoma HD39 Darbee? May work for your dimensions. I know Optoma variants especially the 1080 are quite popular on here so they seem to produce good gear.

Also how high is your ceiling now? You can get pole mounts for projectors that will drop the projector down a metre or so. A short throw would give you more options.

I think side wall mounting will limit your options even further as you will need lens shift or horizontal keystone and this will degrade your image.

I got the Optoma HD39 Darbee and not finnished my build yet. But @ just over 6m gives just Big enough image in 4:3 for my 10ft wide by 8ft high screen. I will post an image with the screen up.

@ 6.5m away it would have been better and it does have a Zoom feature.

Not sure if will fill a complete screen if you have 3m x 3m.
Also you have to remember the shadows cast by the player if you have not mounted it High enough...... or your hitting area is close to the screen

This piccie above (without screen up) is near 9.5ft wide and 7.5ft HIGH

Projecter @ 600cm from screen and mounted approx 300cm high (estimate) possibly a little more.

Hitting area maybe 350cm (estimate) and any closer i think may cast a player shadow.

Optoma HD39 Darbee in 4.3 ratio

Thanks for that, I'll check out that projector. On the wall I can mount it at anything up to about 4m so I'm hoping that will be high enough to prevent shadows. I can move the hitting mat around until I find the best position too. Mounting on the back wall gives me better access to power and where I want to put my laptop too.

I have no ceiling now, just exposed joists - it should be visible from the photos earlier. I'm sure I could get a pole mount arrangement up there with a bit of work but it would be a lot easier and more convenient to put a shelf on the wall.
