  • 12x9 Screen Hitting Distance and Projector

I am designing my enclosure and screen and have some questions about hitting distance and projector distance. I am planning for the enclosure to extend out 10 feet (instead of 5) and my footprint will go back to 16’. The screen will be 12:9 and based on what I am reading 4:3 is the way to go to fill up the screen (most of my time will be using the sim but want to let kids watch movies now and then to). Ideally I would like to hit from 11-14’ but is this possible and if so where should the projector be mounted? Is the 10’ enclosure going to be too much? Will the projector need to be mounted ahead of me and will I risk hitting it? Should I make the enclosure only 5’? And any suggestions on what projector to use?

I'm also in the planning phase for my sim build. Check out this site for potential projector placement: https://www.projectorcentral.com/pro...ulator-pro.cfm
My current plan is to hit from about 10' or 11' from the screen, the projector to be 1' or 2' on the ceiling in front of the hitting area. Wouldn't think this would be a problem unless you have an extremely upright swing plane. As for the enclosure, I think 5' from the screen should be fine unless you think you'll have new players hitting, then I'd go 10' to fully protect your walls.

Thanks. I was hoping to do the 10' for two reasons. First, I think it would look cleaner (though I could be wrong) and also for the sake of my two younger kids who are just starting to play. Maybe it does make sense to go to 5' though. Thanks for that link. I plugged in the BenQ TH671ST and the Optoma GT1080. The BenQ recommended mounting the projector at 10'11' (using 12x9 screen and 4:3 ratio) while the Optoma recommended mounting at 7'3". I guess if I want to use a 10' deep enclosure I should consider getting the BenQ?

I am in the process of building myself, actually as I type this I have my new projector sitting at home on my door step. I went with a gt1080darbee. I can post a picture and distances when I get home if it will help you at all

I originally planned to go 12x9 screen roughly so I ordered a 13' wide screen and a 13.5' sportscreen so I can put it away when not in use. However I changed where I want to install it and could have went with a 16' screen now, but I guess you live and learn

Ok just got home and hooked up my computer and the 1080darbee to see how it looked. I attached some pics on here. This was the distance to get roughly a 13' wide image at 16:9. Tag an extra 3 or 4 inches on to the distance because of the ledge in my garage

These were taken with light pouring in as it's day time, the image was slightly washed out but I played with the brightness and it becomes doable even in day time

          Cheers

PS I'll be using GC2, I had a skytrak which is why it says that in the screen lol
