I have just completed construction of a stand-alone building for my golf simulator. The structure’s internal dimensions are 23’ 6” long, 15’ 6” wide and 11’ 6” high. I will be utilizing a Foresight GC Quad to drive the simulator using FSX2018 software. Several issues remain to be fleshed out and I am looking for assistance about the projector. It will be ceiling mounted, but should it be in front of, over or behind the tee area? I anticipate the tee area to be 10 to 12 feet from the screen. What are the key specifications I should be looking for in its selection? I plan on supplying an HDMI connection from the computer. What projector manufacturer would you recommend?

I also recently completed a stand-alone building with very similar dimensions. I wanted to accommodate a wide range of golfer abilities, so I placed my projector behind the hitting area. I have a 11'4" high ceiling with the hitting location about 9'6" from a 12' x 9' impact screen. The screen hangs about 8" above the floor with a ramp to keep balls from going under it. The projector is mounted on the ceiling with a rail system I made from a drawer slide that allows me to move the projector from 14'6" to 16'6" away from the screen. When positioned at 16'6" and the projector set to 4:3 aspect ratio, the image exactly fills the entire screen. When positioned at 14'6" and using 16:9 widescreen, the image fills the screen width (with a gap either on the top or bottom depending of how I point the projector).Originally posted by rstamm4 View PostI have just completed construction of a stand-alone building for my golf simulator. I normally use the widescreen mode with the projector positioned at 14'6" from the screen. I am happy that I went behind the golfer. I worried about shadows, but I have none when hitting from the main area. There is a very minor shadow issue when putting as my putting sensor is positioned about 3 feet closer to the screen.
I went with an Epson Home Cinema 1060 projector ($500) and am very happy. I can get my room almost completely dark, so I have zero issues with image brightness. But even when I allow some light into the room it still looks good.
I connect my computer HDMI output to a Denon AVR-S710W 4K Ultra AV Receiver that is connected to the projector with an HDMI cable. The Denon AVR allows me to drive the projector with a wide range of image sources (TV antenna, cable TV, blu-ray, DVD, or anything I can get to on the internet with my computer) in addition to the golf software. Also, the sound with the Denon is very nice.
