  • BenQ TH671ST 16:10 Aspect Ratio

I just bought the BenQ TH671ST and will be setting up this weekend. Using the calculator on Projector Central, I can easily fit into a 16:9 aspect ratio but I have some extra height. Does anyone know if you can force this to a 16:10 ratio? It doesn't indicate in the manual that the 16:10 is an available option. Wondering what any current owners are using?

I know for sure you can do it in nvidia.
Just remember that it will shrink the sides of your 16:9 picture to make it 16:10 so make sure you have zoom capacity left or mount the pj closer so your picture fiöös your screen.

I have had this projector for a few months and like it. I had a 16:10 1920 * 1200 projector prior and also attempted getting the 671st to fill my screen by forcing 16:10 or 1920 * 1200 in Nvida Settings.

Projector does not support this resolution natively but as others have said you can go into Nvida settings (if you have nvidia - assume AMD has same) and setup a custom resolution 1920*1200. Once you have the desktop in this this res you can set sim software to this same resolution.

Although this can be done, I ended up back at the native projector res of 1920*1080 because I was losing some picture clarity. Wasn’t bad, but I am trying to get the best image I can and for me wasn’t worth giving up sharpness to fill a bit more screen up top. I bought a black industrial curtain valence from ebay to black out the top of screen.

I got this projector because I just needed more brightness than my older 16:10 projector. I have 2 high speed usb video cameras in the room so I need a good amount of light over my hitting area. I think having a short throw projector in-front of this area is better. My screen is much brighter now and I still get to keep enough light over the stance mat for my cameras to work well.

I contacted BenQ directly about the 16:10 aspect ratio capabilities of the BenQ TH671ST. Here is what I was told directly from their RD department. Using the on-screen display you can select "Auto". If (AND ONLY IF) the source aspect ratio is native 16:10, then and only then will the TH671ST project the image in 16:10. If the native aspect ratio from the source is 16:9 or 4:3 you can not force the TH671ST to output a 16:10 aspect ratio. Hope this helps clear up any confusion.

What you do in nvidia is you change the source aspect ratio to 16:10. This works for all 16:9 projectors.
But it does not make your projector 16:10. It makes the picture smaller by scaling 16:9 to 16:10.
        Working...
