  • Projector Suggestions???

Remodeling a room in my basement for golf simulator/theater.

    Room Dimensions
    29' L
    17' W
8'9" H (little disappointed but will work fine)

Center of mat distance to screen: 10-11'
Impact screen dimensions: 8x14'--- 185' Diagonal

My ideal projector would be 1--4' behind the golf mat. I would consider to go off to the side. Would I need a short throw projector? Would I need to buy a separate lens for projector? Do not want to cast shadows on screen. Any suggestions on projectors that would work? Looking for 3k over lumens and budget $1000-2000 for projector.

Attached is what I hope my room looks like. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I just installed my Projector for our new build. Screen is 180”w x 112.5” h. Projector front lens just under 13’ from screen and just behind my hitting mat which is approx 10.5’. Absolutely no shadows even when I move up to my putting sensor which is 6.5’ from screen.

I bought a Sony VLP FH60 and added the Z3009 lens. Had less then $1500 in combo.

I think full swing uses these sometimes.

Im about to buy that Sony and lens... This would be my first purchase just wondering if I should wait. Seems to be some great deals on ebay, right now. Will they last?

That is a bit low especially after the floor is built up. And if you have guests. My suggestion would be to strategically raise the ceiling in the area of your follow-through even if you can't raise it everywhere.

I wish I could but they are load bearing ceiling and the floor is concrete. I am putting the hitting mat directly on concrete floor.

Way I look at it... Ill will be doing 98% of the swinging. Appreciate the insight.

After second look, I am talking to contractors to raise the load bearing ceiling by swinging area. Waiting on price now.

I would buy the Optoma EH415ST. Mine sits at 8’ and projects an image 98” high by just under 15’ wide. It’s 3500 lumens 1080p and you can pick up for just over $600 US. If interested I can give you the contact. My ceiling is about 102”. I can full swing without issues. I’m about 5’ 11”. I did set my projector up into floor trusses about 3” or so and it has to angle up a bit and use keystone. You will have to angle up with just about any projector you choose if you want an 8’ screen.

Thats projector throws a great image, I am going to look into that projector. So the projector is in front of you while hitting?

Remember that pictures taken from the phone greatly enhances color contrast. Not trying to dissuade you at all from that projector though. I like how my looks but it doesn't look quite with this pow! Click image for larger version

I know this thread is a little old but great info in here. Looking for a little info and possibly education here. Per the spec sheet for the EH415ST, the max screen size for this unit is 153", yet you are clearly getting larger. Is there any good reason to follow maximum specs when looking at projectors? I really want a 4k but this may suffice until the 4ks really come down in price. This could definitely fit the bill as I am looking to project onto a screen that is 220" diagonal (exactly 16' x 9' screen).

Some nice setups in this thread. On the Op's first post i liked the picture but is a curved screen a possibility? Does it take a special projector or special screen?
