  • High lumen projector for The Net Return Simulator Series

The good news is that I got permission from my wife to put this in my living room - but it does have more windows than a normal media room or garage, so I'm looking for a good bright short throw projector. I've been to ProjectorCentral and looked at their calculator, and after reading some poor reviews of the Infocus IN138HDST projector, I'm close to ordering the Optoma eh460st. On the calculator from 4'6 in 4:3 mode it has 46 fL and is rated okay for a room with 5 fc / 14%, which is about 40% more than the 33 fL of the Optoma Darbee.

My room has one big window covered with a solar shade which is pentagonal and hard to cover with a blind. If I get this projector and it's still too light, I will bite the bullet and figure something to cover the window at that point.

The net return has a projector mount that extends out to 5'5 and they recommend the ViewSonic PJD6552LWS, which is a short throw (0.49) projector weighing 8 lbs that isn't 1080p but is 3500 lumens. Rainorshinegolf recommends the Optoma eh200st, which is 1080p but 3000 lumens compared to 4200 on the eh460st and 33 fL vs 46 fL on the projectorcentral calculator.

So I'm convinced that out of the projectors I've looked at I have a good choice. Is there something else out there that I should be considering?

Well, I can turn this into a review now. The eh460st is awesome. Granted, I have no other pricked to compare it to, but I have plenty of light in the room and it is bright. It's possible that I could have been happy with a projector with less luminance, but the theme of this project was judicious overkill and the eh470st killed it.

How come this projector says 'max throw' length of 5.5 ft???

Because it is a short throw projector.
