  • Projector recommendations?

    13’ x 10’ screen with 10’ depth of enclosure
    celling height is 12’6”
    area depth is 22’ long
hitting area (tee/ball) is 13’-15’ from screen
    bright ambient light
don’t like shadow from golfer or club
don’t want hit the projector with occasional “air ball”

budget for projector: ideally <$1K, can go up to $1.5K

Any recommendations which projector will work best? Thanks.

I read that most people have projector mounted right above or in front of the hitting area. With my high ceiling, 12’6”, can I get away with a standard throw projector, mount on the ceiling a few feet away from the hitting area , without creating shadows? Anyone has this setup to hit between the projector and the screen?

      I found this projector https://www.projectorcentral.com/Vie...Pro8800WUL.htm

It seems to a good candidate based on the specs for my space. But it does not seem to be a popular golf SIM choice. anyone has experience in using this projector?

Your screen is ~ 10 feet tall correct? I think you are going to run into issues hitting full wedge shots with your ball 12-15 feet away from screen. I suspect the ball is going to hit your enclosure ceiling before getting to your screen but maybe that isn't a big deal just make sure its sturdy.

Based on a 13x10 screen I assume you will run in 4:3 aspect ratio? In order to get a full viewable screen width of 156" it says that projector will have to be 20.5 feet away from screen. That puts the projector 5-8 ft behind where you are standing and you will have shadows of your head / swing follow through.

The other issue you have to deal with is that your enclosure is only 10 feet tall (assumption) so trying to mount the projector higher than that will end up blocking off part of the projector image on top depending on how far back it is (the angle from the project lens to the top of your enclosure).

All excellent points - some I haven’t thought of ! I assume you must have been there and done that I may have to go back to drawing board. Boy.

Hah yep its a time sink for sure but worth it in the end.

This is why most folks end up with a short throw projector. This typically results in the projector ideally a few feet in front of you and overhead or over the ball. That is a pretty safe position since you swing on a tilted plane its very unlikely your club path will be a concern.
